Chu Text Word Investigation

The quantity and the using state of the Chinese character is an important aspect of the historical development of the Chinese character. The research of Chinese character is the only way to know the quantity and the using state of the Chinese character and it is also the main method to get the law and the trend of the historical development of the Chinese character. Since the development of Chinese character is continuing and advancing, we must know the quantity and the using state of the Chinese character of every dynasty if we want to know its whole state.We decide to do this study for the unearthed materials of the Chu-character of the Warring States Period we have are enough to reflect its using state. In order to do this we select thirteen kinds of the unearthed materials of the Chu-character, and build the Chu^character database. By the database we get the amount of the Chu-character of the Warring States Period we researched is 41601, the quantity is 3601, of them Changyongzi is 607, Cichangyongzi is 853, Shengpizi is 2093, and we also distinguish the Yitizi and Gujinzi, and make out the Chu-character table. With this research we know the elementary using state of the Chu-character of the Warring States Period and we also find that some characteristic of the law of Chu-character is almostly identical with that of the Chinese character showing in its whole historical development.The article is made of five parts, in the first part we describe the present situation of modern and historical Chinese character and explain the purpose and meaning of our research.In the second part we select the material and expound some theory andprinciple and concept that the research related.In the third part we finish the database that can help us realizing the research, and introduce its value.In the fourth part we give the result of the research from the point ofZishu, Ziliang, Zipin, Yitizi, Gujinzi, Changyongzi, Cichangyongzi, Shengpizi, and according to the result we show the related analysis.The last part we conclude the using state of the Chu-character of the Warring States Period from the point of the general Changyongzi and Hewen fourthly.
