A Bing Double-edged: The Comparison Of Music And Literature And The Basic Relationship Orientation

Music and literature -- two kinds of psychic fortune of human beings - cannot be parated from the development of our human beings. They closely accompany with us, and not only make our life rich and colorful, but also act as a very important mechanism and measurement for the civilization of humankind. It's impossible to imagine to have human beings on the earth without the production of physical products, so could the society be organized and developed until now without music and literature. It is not turgidly to say that music and literature are two of the most important specific signs of human society as well as the basis for human to survive and development.Being different from other sorts of human psychic products, music and literature are closely linked to each other. They are not only tied with each other in the original stage, but also closely bound up during the development process of each other. It seems that "sister arts" is still not close enough to describe the near relation between them. In nature, music and literature just like a two-edge-knife that present before us and play extremely role in the human life.Partly because of the rapid development of the human's social life and its evolving enrichment and complication, and partly because of the increasing subdivision of the academic research, people's perception and understanding about music and literature became increasingly simplified and specialized.It is natural that the comprehensive research was neglected in this context. This can be interpreted that music and literature have improved themselves and become mutual independent subjects after a lengthy development. Also we can say that the academic researches on them have also grown into independent subjects. However, because of the special relation between music and literature, it is evidently meaningful for us to compare and comprehensively review their history origin and natural relation to understand music and literature respectively or as a whole. If we dare to say that we have done little in the past, then we should emphasize them from now on. On this consideration, the subject of this thesis was decided.In order to carry out the expected task, comparison approach was used consistently through out this paper. The history origin of music and literature and their external and internal particularity composition was analyzed and reviewed in detail in the historical and theoretical frames.The "forward" part curtly expatiates the overall relation between the music and the literature, the follows are five chapters. The first chapter specifies the history origin of the close relation between music and literature by explaining the birth background of them. Chapter 2 discusses the essential relation between music and literature with the language. The characteristics of music, language rhythm and literary language are especially analyzed. Chapter 3 discusses the composing factors of music and literature and the subject-and-object relation between them from the production process to acceptance process. Chapter 4 gives some parallel comparison on the fundamental characteristics andthe main functions of music and literature, which are easily understood by people. The purpose is to take the common points apart more clearly. Chapter 5 does some more direct cross-comparison and analyses the close relation between music and literature, in order to make the basic relation between them oriented more unambiguously.Both of music and literature have long history and rich invention practices, they also involve very broad content. High theory analysis capacity is required to comb and clean it up. Although the author has try his best, but because of the low start point, he still feel that it is unable to do what he want to do during the writing period. Due to the limited time and space, the future development of the relation between music and literature is not discussed. And it is also not projected and demonstrated that in which range and to which extent they can absorb and blend with each other.
