A Philosophy Of History As Critique Of Modernity

Agnes Heller is the main representative of the school in Budapest,Her researchfield is quite extensive,including the instinct of people,needs,daily life and history. Inthe latter part of her academic career, she turned to the field of philosophy of history.Herphilosophy of history inherited the thinking of Hegel,Marx and Collingwood.She raisedone kind with the modern features of the history of philosophy.Her history ofphilosophy is reflected in the <A Ttheory of history>,<A Philosophy of History inFragments>,<A Theory of Modernity>.Her philosophy of history can be divided into the development of two phases.Thefirst stage is the infancy of her philosophy of history, in one hand Heller inheritedCollingwood, combined philosophical thinking with historic study,in the otherhand,make a distinction between concepts of history and philosophy of history. In thesecond stage,Heller combined understanding of the philosophy of history with herreflection of modernity,supposed a philosophy of history in fragments,and in the latterof the second stage,Heller starting to analysis and criticism modernity, and according tothe criticism reflect on humanity difficulties.In the period of writing <A Theory of history>, Heller has not contented with thephilosophy of history on the grand narrative,she hope to perfect it, in order to avoidthe impact of false consciousness, to better finished the task of reflect on the past andthinking about the future. But Heller had been not utilized microscopic vision into thefield of historical research, so she can not be able to propose a new philosophy ofhistory to replace the grand narrative of the history of philosophy.In the book of <APhilosophy of History in Fragments>,Heller has been influented by postmodernism,and she has utilized microscopic vision to study history. In the<A Theory ofModernity>, Heller continue to use microscopic vision to examine the modernity,tomake a detailed criticism for many problems in modernity. Her philosophy of history is different from the speculative philosophy of history is also different from the analysisof the history of philosophy, But a philosophy of history of modernity critique.This paper attempts the comb on the history of philosophy of Heller, to exploit itsacademic value of the history of philosophy and its theoretical significance.
