The City In Literatures Since1980S

Urban literature is always the hot spot of the literary study since1980s'. The given researchers, who deal with this theme, usually try to further investigate some relevant issues concerned it from different perspectives. In fact, even if the research of the "city in literature" has achieved so much, but so far, there is few systematic and deep works which focused on "city in literature". It is sure that there is many approaches availed for probing this theme. According to me, when viewed from the perspective of regional attributes, obviously it may overcome difficulties of research for the city literature as well as make it return to its essential attributes of Chinese city literature——the real images and episteme of the cities in the literatures. The dissertation adds a new approach of city literature studies, and shows the native and richness of the Chinese cities in literatures.The first chapter of the paper catches the plight of the city literature in modernity and the meaning of the studying city literature from the center of regional attributes. The current main direction of Chinese city literature was brought to forward the studying under the guidance of the modern literary studies. Modernity, as a complex cultural issue, usually is taken on by some authors as an important aspect of any city cultural identity. When any investigator looks it as a central proposition, and use it for studying city in literatures, person who engaged in this field will be put into a cage. If we study all propositions about city literature from the perspective of regional attributes, particularly, the proposition of the city of literature, only studying "city in literature" in the center of regional attribute, can we interpret and reconstruct many different cultural images by means of the vision of the internal horizon of cultural holders. If did like this, in my view, the detention of modernity will be broken through at the least cost, and the same time we would get the true literature reality. The second chapter discusses nostalgias, and the third chapter focuses consumption. Both the former and the latter also concern some selected distinction of varies cites, Beijing and Shanghai and so on. We can comprehend the literature images of different cities in the depth of histories and current landscapes. Nostalgic narratives rootle some historic items and traditional lifeblood underlying those cities in eyes of authors through unforgettable memories. When probing into the text from the perspective of consumption, we easily get some ethos embodied in the life of people whose destiny has different dimension. Despite the images of cities becomes more and more homogeneous day and day, because of different terrain, the intrinsic features of variety cities may show itself distinct visions. Diversities of different region attributes play a important role in the pen of litterateur, and these diversities run into the homogenization of cities, as a necessary result, there lies two astonishing phenomena, i.e. blend and react. Metaphors of the cities excavate certainly common cultural features of different cities, moreover, those metaphors which come into being in the literatures mainly take on two main forms, namely, one is the Jiangnan poetic literature metaphors of the city, the other is body metaphors in the space of the city. What The last chapter, as a deepen reflection, mainly talking about is how literature should take care of city. Roughly analyzing, I believe, themes like this will be taken into account, for instance, the unbalanced literature image of cities, the native resources of city imagination and even the loss of the future imagine of cities.This research is based on the literary works with help of methods of the literary and culture. It takes attempt to show the diversity and richness of the Chinese cities in the literature visions.
