As one of the three Chinese painting genres, flower-bird painting experienced four periods in the history. Before the Tang Dynasty, the paintings focused on the birds and flowers. In the Tang Dynasty, the paintings combined these two elements forming the flower-bird painting style. The Song Dynast was its flourishing period. And in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it had got deeply developed in many aspects of the art. In Chinese art history, painting poems worked as one part of flower-bird painting and developed with the history of this painting style since Tang Dynasty. From the literature and existing works of art, the real painting poetry time should be the Song Dynasty instead of Tang, even though it could be found in the Tang history. This paper made study on painting poems and flower-bird paintings from the perspective of imagery.The art formats of poems, calligraphy and paintings were the Chinese painting characteristics. A large amount of researches had been made to investigate the relationship between poems and paintings. In the present age, the Chinese paintings were developing far way from the traditional way based on the consideration of cultural diversity and western cultural impact. So, China's national art is undergoing a severe test. Flower-bird paintings, as part of traditional culture, are also facing the disjointing situation. It can be said that this is not only a theoretical research to the flower-bird poems and the paintings poems, but also a beneficial research to the national cultural heritage. Therefore, whether from a historical point of view is still the current situation, the research is necessary and meaningful.This paper made study on the imagery from flower-bird paintings and painting poems with methods of image analysis and literatures. The chapter one introduced the chanting birds and flowers and painting birds and flowers periods and its flourishing period in the Ming and Qing Dynasty. Chapter one clearly introduced the history of the flower-bird paintings and painting poems. The second chapter discussed the poems and paintings from the emerging of "imagery" and the various periods of "image".The third chapter analyzed the causing of the image construction from the aspects of the ancient poet, the image of "Fu" and "bi", "Xing" techniques, "moral view" and "identity of man with heaven" thought. The fourth chapter discussed the imagery of the flower-bird paintings from the themes, construction and conformation. The fifth chapter discussed the imagery of the painting poems from the written imagery and content imagery. The sixth chapter analyzed the relationship between flower-bird painting imagery and painting poem imagery. The seventh chapter discussed the revelation of imagery research to the current flower-bird painting and painting poem works.The paper made study on the relationship between Chinese ancient poems and paintings in the flower-bird painting arts from the view of imagery of flower-bird painting and painting poems. The previous scholars usually investigated the poems and paintings from the-perspective of imagery, but the research view from poem-painting antitheses and imagery was unique. The researches involved poems and painting imagery from the view of flower-bird painting theme, construction, painting materials and artistic techniques were not systematic enough. Meanwhile, flower painting and poem research got out of the theoretic level and discussed the practical significance combining the theory with the status quo of the modern flower-bird artistic creation. It was also a little concerned by the scholars before.The research points of the paper were the imagery forming and expression in the flower-bird paintings and analyzing the flower-bird paintings and painting poems works creation from the view of imagery to verify the relationship between flower-bird paintings and painting poems during the production process.the results showed that the imagery connotation could be investigated from the aspects of representation techniques, representation forms with the theory of imagery. In this process, the unique thinking model and art techniques that ancient painters and poets used flower and bird to create aesthetic imagery. This imagery was the ancient poet and painter's interpretations of Chinese Confucianism. Chinese painting, combining poetry, calligraphy and painting, could always shine in the world classical art gardens. This is inseparable to the distinctive images which the ancient Chinese poetry and painting artists created. |
