Cenozoic is a hot spot in both the learning and literary field. It refers to some writers who were born in the1960s and began to write novels in the1990s. The writers include Han Dong,Zhu Wen,Lu Yang,He Dun,Huadong Qiu,Feiyu Bi,Li Feng,Chen Ran,Lin Bai,Xu Kun,Dong Xi,Zhang Min,Diao Dou,Shu Ping,Hai Nan and so on. Strictly speaking, Cenozoic is not a writer group, because the writers have different writing styles and art characteristics. They just grew up in the roughly similar environment and all of them write novels in the 1990s, which cause that their novels show some similar characteristics. Since Cenozoic showed up in the literary world in the mid 1990s, critics have had different opinions from each other. Judging from several aspects, I will conclude the form and method of Cenozoic criticism as following.This thesis consists of the introduction, text, end notes and references. In the introduction, I discuss the concept and the social and cultural context of Cenozoic novels, and I summarize the relevant academic achievement of the creation and criticism of Cenozoic novels. Besides, I explain the study and thinking methods of this thesis, summarize the basis of choosing topic, possible academic value and research difficulties.In the first chapter, I attempt to select three representative critics—Jinhua Dai, Zhang Jun and Hongbing Ge as examples from many critics who have infinite vigor and unlimited academic potential. By looking back and explaining their Cenozoic novel criticism texts, I try to show the style, characteristics, advantages and shortcomings of their Cenozoic novel criticism, in order to outline and overview the appearances of Cenozoic novel critics since the middle 1990s.In the second chapter, the sensory writing is regarded as the focus of attention and criticism in the academic field, thus I try to start from the nature and characteristics of sensory writing, taking the novel texts and criticism texts as examples, to illustrate that the Cenozoic writers put individual perceptual experiences and social existing into the body of self, thus show the differences between Cenozoic novel and"hooligan literature","prostitute literature"and"desire slave"which are usual and typical misreading on sensory writing. Besides I sum up and comb the appearances of the criticism of Cenozoic novel's sensory writing.In the third chapter, "personal writing" has caused uproar in academic field in the 1990s.I start from the social and cultural context of the personal writing, taking the novel texts and criticism texts as examples, to define the relationship between personal writing and traditional narrative, personal writing and writing style which are important on Cenozoic novel criticism. Besides, I illustrate the reason why personal writing failed to be more widely recognized is to some extent, based on its own paradox, then I explain those paradox inside it.In the fourth chapter, I start from the social and cultural situation in the 1990s when China was experiencing transformation, to outline the text representation of the flat narrative of Cenozoic novel, and by analyzing the narrative content and narrative stance of the flat narrative and taking the novel texts and criticism texts as examples, I investigate the relationship between flat narrative and post modern theory, flat narrative and daily narrative, flat narrative and enlightenment theory which are important problems of Cenozoic novel criticism.In the fifth chapter, I select three writers—Zhuwen, Chenran, Hedun who are representative in three theme fields, starting from the criticism of them, to point out that in interpreting these writers'novels, many critics often seem to scold too much but think rationally too little, which cause that they can't express the reality and solve the problems efficiently. Thus I advocate that critics should try to start from the unique social cultural context of the1990's, to dig their non-stopping research and responsibilities through the Cenozoic text on the surface. But meanwhile, I also warn the critics to watch out, to avoid some writers to fall into the extreme body narrative and secular narrative.In conclusion part, based on the above discuss, I summarize and conclude, novels criticism since the middle of the 1990s, summarizing the performance and pointing out the existing typical problems, then imagine and concept the future criticism on the topic.
