Fantasy Novel Mountain Worship

Therefore, the study on the relationship between the genie novel and the beliefs of mountain will be not only helpful to learn more understanding of the Occurrence of the genie novel, but also to make deeper-level cultural interpretation to the space structure, plot, etc.Besides introduction and conclusion, the paper is in five chapters:Chapter I:"The Beliefs of Mountain in the Pre-Qin Period and the Occurrence of the Genie Novel" It largely outlines the development process and features of the beliefs of mountain in the pre-Qin period, and analyses the quality of mountain of the "Mountain Bible"-"Shan Hai Jing ". On this basis, it points out that the human's cognition to the world mainly starts from the mountains and the objects associated with the mountain and gradually expands outward. To a certain extent, the mountain is considered as the birthplace of Chinese civilization wherein the original religion and the original myth. The primitive religion and the original myth directly promote the generation and mature of genie ideas, and they also can be seen as an important cultural origin of the genie novel. In addition, it also analyses characteristics and status of the tale in "Shan Hai Jing", and then demonstrates the possibility that the beliefs of mountain affect the genie novel in its occurrence.ChapterⅡ:"Mountain:the Place of Breeding Spirit—the First Representation of the Relationship between the Genie Novel and the Beliefs of Mountain ". The study show, based on the statistics, that mountain is the most common place of breeding ghosts and monsters. Then it explores the reason of this phenomenon in the term of ghosts and monsters metamorphosed by beast in mountain, the conjunction of mountain environments add the characteristics of the monsters, and the effect of mountain worship and teachings of Taoism. Moreover, it takes the senior monster-mandrill as a case, explaining the stories about the monsters in the genie novel.ChapterⅢ:"Mountain:the Home of Gods—the Second Representation of the Relationship between the Genie Novel and the Beliefs of Mountain". It points out the common phenomenon that gods live in the mountain in fantasy novel, illustrating briefly some tales such as cultivating immortality, encountering gods, learning skills and records of the famous mountains in the genie novel. Meanwhile, it analyses the evolution, the characteristics and the social and cultural connotations of the stories of the mountain gods and their family members. Besides, it also details the deep-level reasons that the gods in the genie novel associate with mountain:the traditional mountain worship and the concept of god living in mountains, the theory and practice of Taoism, the Taoist mountain worship and the configuration of fairyland, the imagination of Buddhism and hermit,have played an important role. Among these, the impact of Taoist concept about fairyland is particularly noticed.ChapterⅣ:"Mountain:the Return Place of the Ghost—the Third Representation of the Relationship between the Genie Novel and the Beliefs of Mountain". This part show that the connection between the ghost in the genie novel and the mountain mainly embodies in three aspects:the mountains are the ghost's traveling palace, the ghost of new dying return to the mountains, and gods of mountain supervises ghosts. Furthermore, it explores the change and the characteristics of the belief of Mountain Tai god ruling ghost in different historical periods.ChapterⅤ:"Artistic and Aesthetic Survey on the Beliefs of Mountain in the Genie Novel—taking the Monkey King" as an example. This part analyses the description on the mountain in the genie novel, pointing out its main characteristic is modeling and relevant features triggered by this modeling. It also explains the narrative and symbolic value of the mountains in the genie novel:"mountain narrative" is common constructing mode of plot in the genie novel; the sacred realm/ free paradise and suffering/danger are main symbolic meaning. Moreover, it should be emphasized the characteristics of the description and narrative and symbolic features in the genie novel are based on the beliefs of mountain.
