Objective: The chronic atrophic gastritis is a common disease. When it accompanied with intestinal metaplasia or dysplasia, it had the tendency to Progress into gastric carcinoma. To treat this disease by western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine has become a focus in the digestive research work. Professor Shan has been working as a doctor more than forty years. He had abundant experience in treating Spleen and Stomach disease, especially in treating chronic atrophic gastritis. In his experience, the exterior factors, improper diet, psychological factors and overworking were those pathogenesis and improper diet was the main reason. Qi deficiency, blood stasis are the combination of deficiency and excess were the important characters in its pathogenesis.Method:According to Professor Shan's experience with the use syndrome treatment. That the method of replenishing and promoting the circulation blood is the major treatment principle of chronic atrophic gastritis. We use Shan's niweitang treats 113 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis and with intestinal metaplasia for six month.Result: The result showed that the prescription's effective ratio in the signs of gastro scope, Atrophy, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia were 87.61%,82.30%,68.14% and 75.00% respectively. It could also obviously decrease the integrals of atrophy, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia, improve the clinical symptoms.Conclusion:Analysis indicates that chronic atrophic gastritis treated by Shan's niweitang have an fair curative effect and can reverse the gastric pathology in atrophic gastritis. All these experiences by Professor Shan will be great helpful in directing the diagnosis and treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia.
