ObjectiveThis randomized controlled study adopts clinical epidemiological methods, clinical research methods and statistical analysis methods. It observes the clinical curative effect and safety of Jin's Three-needle Therapy to treat children mental retardation and makes objective evaluation with the hope of further promoting curative effect and achieving better social benefit.Methods60 subjects of children mental retardation were selected who have been treated in the Acupuncture Clinic of Chinese Medicine Department and the Children Early Treatment Clinic of Rehabilitation Department of Keelung Hospital of Ministry of Health, Taiwan from September 2008 to September 2009 and who have met the case inclusion. The qualified subjects were randomly classified into the Trial Group (Jin's Three-needle Therapy Group) and the Controlled Group (Body Needle Group) at the rate of 1:1 with 30 in each group. Treat 3 times each week for 12 weeks in a treatment course with 36 times of needling in total. Observe 1 treatment course. Evaluate the mentally retarded children with Wechsler Intelligence Scale (above 6 years old) and CCDI (below 6 years old). Evaluate FIQ, VIQ and PIQ as well as clinical symptoms, examine safety and observe the clinical effect.ResultIn the comparability analysis of the subjects'baseline features, the difference of the subjects'age, gender, disease condition, case elements, FIQ, VIQ, PIQ and clinical symptoms between two groups has no statistical significance (P>0.05) which indicates the comparability. After 1 treatment course, the FIQ, VIQ and PIQ scores of two groups rise obviously compared with those before treatment and the difference has statistical significance(P<0.01). The interclass comparison shows the scores of the three indexes in the Trial Group rise 14.58±3.16,13.69±3.41,12.16±3.63 on average respectively and the difference has statistical significance (P<0.05) compared with those in the Controlled Group. It indicates that Jin's Three-needle Therapy can improve the intelligence level of the mentally retarded children and has significant effect. The difference between two groups has statistical significance (P<0.05) in improving symptoms like reaction retardation, language disorder, dribbling, extremity disorder, extremity flabbiness, and muscle convulsion. Compare the excellence rate and the total effective power in improving mental and behavioral symptoms and body signs of the Trial Group with those of the Controlled Group, the author finds the difference has statistical significance (P<0.05). The difference in the excellence rate and the total effective power of two groups in improving poor understanding, poor memory and MBD has no statistical significance (P>0.05) and it can't be said that the Trial Group is superior to the Controlled Group in these three aspects. In improving the clinical symptoms, the total effective power of the Trial Group and the Controlled Group are 93.3% and 73.3% and the difference has statistical significance (P<0.05). It indicates that Jin's Three-needle Therapy has confirmed curative effect in treating children mental retardation. ConclusionBased on the clinical research results mentioned above, it can be proved preliminarily that applying Jin's Three-needle Therapy to treat children mental retardation can help the recovery of the patients'cognitive ability, daily activity ability and neural function. It's economical, convenient, effective, safe and reliable and deserves further promotion in clinical treatment.
