Depression is a syndrome of mental disorder belongs to affectivepsychologic disorder, which main character is bad mood. Clinicalmanifestations include low mood, thought slowness, reduction inactions and words, loss interest in life, self-reproach and self-guilty,or even suicide. The research analyzed the common symptoms, features of syndromeand the significance of syndrome differentiation. It contains boththeoretical and clinical studies.1 Theoretical research In this research, it begins with the concept and classificationof the psychiatric symptom in modern medicine and the syndrome studyof depression in TCM. To standardize symptoms and syndromes in TCM,investigate the syndrome research of depression and the problem liein the standard research of psychiatric symptoms, raise the way tostudy the features of syndromes,the standard of psychiatric symptomsand the significance of syndrome differentiation.1.1 The meaning and category of psychiatric symptoms The psychiatric symptoms in modern psychiatry are defined asabnormal mentality and behavior which is detected by carefulobservation of external expression like talking, writing, facialexpression, and action; it's important evidence to diagnosis mentaldisorder. However, the categorization of psychosis symptoms is baseon psychology which mainly including the disorders of perception,thought, emo tion, will, behavior, consciousness, intelligence, memory,attention, and etc.1.2 The understanding of psychiatric symptoms in Chinese Medicine From reviewing the ancient Chinese Medicine documents, it couldbe found that ancient physicians had extremely careful observation insome particular psychosis symptoms, and it had very positive effecton diagnosis, treatment of mental diseases in that era. Until now, somedescriptions of metal disorders in the ancient periods. Some of thedescriptions are changed to modern terminology.In modern research and documents, there is no standard for thedenominations of psychosis symptoms in Chinese Medicine. It can notcompare the application of clinical syndrome differentiation ofpsychiatric symptom of depression with overall study of psychiatricsymptoms in modern medicine. And it is insufficient in record ofpsychiatric symptoms and subjective perception of patients.1.3 The research of standardization of psychosis symptoms in ChineseMedicine The main parts of standardization of psychiatric symptoms inChinese medicine are the standard names, quantification and theidentification meaning of symptoms. Nevertheless, it exits someproblems like simultaneous standardization among diseases, symptomsand syndrome. In the research of standardizing symptoms in ChineseMedicine, it still lacks for the parts of psychosis. This research ison the basis of the standardization of symptoms in Chinese medicineand provides some ideas for standardizing psychosis symptoms, whichare systematically rearranging psychiatric symptoms, quantifying andstandardizing the names of the symptoms, and enhancing the researchof identification of the psychiatric symptoms.1.4 The modern study of the syndrome of depression in Chinese Medicine In the research documents in Chinese Medicine, there are more thanforty types of syndrome for simply depression. However, there are alsomore than ten types of syndromes in related diagnosis criteria.From the documents study, there are some problems are worthy of thinking.The cases used in the documents may not strictly following theinternational general criteria and then confuse depression withmelancholia in Chinese Medicine. The method of the study might not beingappropriate and the reliability of the results are not good enough.Some studies lack for the research of clinical epidemiology with enoughsamples, and it makes the studies not representative.
