The purpose of this part is to investigate the protein expression of a novel inhibitor gene of apoptosis, survivin, in gastric cncer tissues and gastric cancer SGC-7901 cell line and its relationship with clinic parameters in order to reveal the role of survivin in gastric tumorigenesis and its relationship with clinic prognosis. Western blotting for survivin expression was conducted on gastric cancer SGC-7901 cell line and 30 gastric cancer tissues, 8 gastric adjacent normal tissues and 10 gastric normal tissues. The results showed that survivin was expressed in all gastric cancer SGC-7901 cell line cells and in 22 of 30 (73.3%) gastric cancer tissues. In contract, 8 gastric adjacent normal tissues and 10 gastric normal tissues did not express survivin. Overexpression of survinvin was associated with the clinical stage and peritoneal and/or distant metastasiswhile sex, age and near lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer. These evidences suggested that survivin played an important role in gastric tumorigenesis and was an important predictive parameter in gastric cancer patients.
