TCM theory has its unique way of thinking; this unique way of thinking is based on the thinking mode of Chinese philosophy. Correspondence between nature and human, overall pattern identification concept, imagery thinking, chaos thinking......All these views of Chinese philosophy are reflected in TCM theory. The generation of each theory in TCM was under the guidance of ancient Chinese philosophy. Up to the present, we still are able to find the root of TCM theory in traditional Chinese culture. In another word, in philosophy, we can always find out the shadow of the former on the later. While for every breakout of TCM theory, we can always find out something that is derived from the same origin, which is the trail of TCM development. Clarify the process of TCM development, then the root and source of TCM thinking can be found. Objectives of the study:(1) Probe the background of TCM thinking from the angles of society and history. Thinking is a comprehensive product in the society and history; it must be affected by the philosophical views of society of the time. Considering this problem, in this dissertation, the author sort out the natural philosophy views from pre-Qin days to the late Qing Dynasty in order to find out a trail of TCM thinking changes caused by philosophy changes. (2) Explore the existence of "implicit cognition" and "implicit knowledge" in the process of TCM being handed down; still the technical feasibility of transforming implicit knowledge into explicit one. (3) Explore the process of explicit expression of implicit knowledge form the interdisciplinary angle. Furthermore, apply psychological methods and computer technologies to show doctors'thinking process by cognitive diagrams. Methods:The study funds are provided by "The Research for Information Processing Technology in TCM Diagnosis and Treatment" (No.2006BAI08B05), "The Cognitive Model Research in TCM Diagnosis and Treatment Based on Automatic Question Answering System" (No.30873461), and "The Research for TCM Diagnosis and Treatment Methods Based on Cognitive Process" (No.90409005). The objects of the study are Traditional Chinese Medical Records and the data collected from clinical practice. Under the guidance of TCM theory, explore the doctors' clinical thinking features and simulation technique. The first step of the study is to consult enough historical data. Based on these data, explore and clarify the historical background of TCM theory generation and its evolution. Because thought is a comprehensive product of society and history, the doctors'academic thoughts must be affected by historical background of the time. Thus, the study begins with the mainstream philosophical views in different historical stages. Then explore the rationality of TCM theory generation and development under the whole background. Besides, study and evaluate the doctors objectively in their living time. Then from the angle of cognitive psychology, explore the implicit knowledge which exists in doctors'theoretical knowledge and only can be understood but be expressed. However, that implicit knowledge is even more important than explicit one in inheritance. Meanwhile, the study explores the necessity and feasibility of explicitizing implicit knowledge in the theoretical level. As the multidisciplinary development, the methods to explicitize implicit knowledge at the technical level are gradually formed. At last, to explicitize the thinking trail of doctors'in the diagnosis and treatment, the study draws the lessons from oral report method, interviewing method and introspective method in psychology, computer case reasoning technique and cognitive map technique. At the principle of not opening the black box, try the best to complete and represent truthfully the whole thinking process of doctors'. After this, it will be recorded into the database in order to prepare for system intelligent training and new case reasoning at the later stage. Results:in the process of exploring the generation of theoretical background, the study has explained the natural philosophy views in the different historical stages and the thinking features of Contemporary representative doctors. Also, it analyzed the affection of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism to TCM thinking generation. In the process of studying the clinical thinking formation from the angle of psychology, the research explored the implicit cognition and implicit knowledge existing in clinical thinking; and analyzed the feasibility of explicitizing them. In the process of utilizing psychology methods, computer technique based on case reasoning, and cognitive map technique, took implicit knowledge of literature type and clinical type as objectives. Then the study applied the software of mind manager to draft the thinking trails of different doctors' and recorded them into the domain knowledge base of case reasoning. Conclusion:The generation and development of TCM theory accompany the development and changes of ancient Chinese philosophy. Among them, Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism are closely related to TCM theory, which developed with the changes of the three religions' philosophical connotations. There is a lot of implicit knowledge in clinical knowledge as the underwater part of iceberg. That knowledge may take most parts of human beings'cognition, so it is important and is worthy to be studied carefully. Besides, existing theory and technology determined that implicit knowledge can be explicitized to some extent. This makes the further study feasible. This study is just the begin work; it tried displaying the thinking trails of doctors'in solving clinical problems. As the deepening of further studies and maturing of techniques, it must achieve more fruitful achievements in this domain.
