With the development of the weapon equipment, the range instrumentation is required to improve. A noval optics measurement device, the master control computer in the photoelectric theodolite, has become the commanding and controlling center system, which can complete data communication with many transducers internally and externally do with the guidance equipment, such as the center computer. And it needs to real-time complete data acquisition, data fusion, digital guidance, state switching, state controlling and function testing, all of which can be completed for the dominance of the real-time multitasking Windows NT operation system. It is because the master control computer comes to appearance that the function of the master control computer can have improved, and the performance can take priority over the coder of DOS. In view of that, the operation system of the master control computer in the photoelectric theodolite could have updated to the Windows NT from DOS.Various of special components have been equipped in the master control computer of the theodolite , including communication controlling and handling component, timer-code generator, interrupt component and dual-port data exchanging card. The master control computer realizes the function of data communication and state control inside and outside. In the Windows NT, how to control these components to realize the harmonization working in the master control computer is a key to be resolved.In order to complete the demand for the real time, the driver for the special components must be developed. That demands that the developer master the technologies, which include the basic principle and the calling relation of operation system, the system architecture and the working principle of the hardware etc. In fact, the driver, which is the most complicated and the most abstract operation, is the interface between application software and hardware, and is a part of the operation system. So the debug for the driver is more complex than for a common application.A first, this paper concludes the characteristic of developing driver in the various of operation system, and introduce the characteristic and working principle of special components in the photoelectric theodolite. On the basis of the deep research of the architecture of Windows NT and the mechanism of the system kernel mode, the realtime communication program for the theodolite is developed in the kernel mode, and has been applied to the noval optics measurement device. This work is a key to updatethe theodolite, and provides a strong foundation for designing and developing drivers based on the popular bus.
