Theoretical analysis and experimental study for the buck1ing behavior of thecompressed face supported by the foam core in sandwich panels with thin─walledcold─formed stee1 pro1iled faces are presented. Including: (1) Assumptions:Thefaces and the core are 1inearly e1astic, the def1ections are sma11, there is no s1ipat the interface between the core and the faces, etc., and inc1udng the inf1uenceof the shear f1exibi1ity of the core, Equations are developed for f1exura1 internalforce ,deflection and stress in sandwich panels;(2) Thin faces are approximatedby the finite strip, whereas the weak core is model1ed by the finite prism, thefinite─strip─prism mode1 for sandwich pane1s are construction for caculatingbuck1ing critica1 stress,buck1ing 1oad and buck1ing ha1f wavelength of thecompressed face supported by the foam core in sandwich panels with thim─walledcold─formed steel faces;(3)It is assumed that the core is an infinite e1astichalf─space, the four edges of the thin─walled meta1 individua1 p1ate e1ementsupported by the core are assumed to be simPly supported, the buck1ing critica1stress is presented by energy method, Equation for cacu1ating the buck1ing stressof the compressed upper f1ange of profi1ed steel faces is to apply a factor to theequation for the individual plate e1ereent suPPOYted by the core, to take accountof the benefit from the web and the lower flange of the upper profi1ed steel facesand the tensi1e lower faecs, and a practical formula for buck1ing critica1 stressof the compressed face in sandwich panels is presented; (4) The postbuck1ingbehaviour calcu1ation method of the cmpressed face in sandwich panels with thepro1i1ed steel faces is tareplace the buck1ing coefficient of Winter effectivewidth formu1ae by a buckling coefficient of the thin─wa11ed meta1 individua1plate element supported by the foam core by energy method: (5) Six profiled sandwichpanels are tested on the f1exura1 buck1ing bearing capacity,buck1ing critica1stress,buckling 1oad and buck1ing half wave1ength of the compressed face insandwich panels are measured, and the theoretical va1ues are in good agreement withthe experimenta1 va1ues.
