Dang Shunxing (Cartography and Geographic Information System) Directed by Prof. Yang ChongjunThis thesis put forewords the architecture of a flood information management system (FIMS) based on distributed Internet geographical information system (Web GIS) technique coupling flood information management, Web GIS and distributed computing. The function modules of the system were analyzed in detail for their description and settlement. Then, a prototype of FIMS based on distributed Web GIS was developed in the Windows platform. The thesis mainly has three parts. In the first part, FIMS and GIS were introduced in their definition, status in quo and developing trends. Then Web GIS and FIMS based on Web GIS were introduced in its features and status in quo.In the second part, architecture of a FIMS based distributed Web GIS was put foreword considering exist systems related and the new technique trend. The system was designed as five layers: database server, map server, DCOM middleware, web server and browser. The description of each parts and their relations was given. There are three strong points of this design. First, the use of distributed technique makes related software or algorithms exist reusable in the new system. For example, hydraulic model operation was realized by integrating exist FORTRAN algorithms. It allows online model operation by users. Secondly, it is the practicality and update ability of the system. Besides the background maintenance of the data and models of the system, users can input his data and models to run the model online. Data management can provide service of online query and analysis of data, data uploading and downloading. Thirdly, the system has ability of online data management and publishing data dynamically. Users can query results of remote operation of application models that were produced by online operation. Then techniques related to the system architecture were studied. They are distributed computing, Web GIS, web server related technique and spatial database technique. All parts of the architecture were settled through these technical studies. In the third part, function modules of FIMS were analyzed. The system was divided into six modules according to data flow and relation of their functionality. They are data management, rainfall forecast and surface runoff model operation, hydraulic model operation, flood 3D simulation and analysis, flood socio-economic impact assessment model operation and flood decision support system.. The description and technique settlement of each module was given in detail. As anemphasis, flood 3D visualizing and analysis module and flood socio-economic impact assessment module were analyzed. Then a prototype of FIMS based on distributed Web GIS was developed in the Windows platform.
