In recent years, development of China’s architecture, engineering and construction industry has won the first position of the world in speed and scale. However, the extensive mode of production has never been changed substantially, and lacking of core competitiveness has led AEC firms to low efficiency. As the most competitive resource, knowledge resource not being systemly managed and effectively used may be the main reason. Based on the enterprise resource theory, knowledge management theory, synergy theory and soft system theory, this paper is going to study collaborative management of multi project knowledge resource in AEC firms on system evolution, capacity formation and capacity improvement and so on.The main research contents and results are as follows:(1) System analysis and capacity model construction of multi-project knowledge resource collaborative management of AEC firms.Three organizational forms which are muti-project knowledge rescource chain, liquid and network are put forward based on the system analysis of knowledge rescource of AEC firms. Soft system thinking method is used to analyze the synergy management system of multi-project knowledge resource. This paper puts forward a construct of "multi-project knowledge resource collaborative management ability" as the system order parameter, constructs the ability model and verifies it by 556 questionnaire survey. The results show that the process ability affects the synergistic effect the most significant, the effect of environmental construction capability is moderate, and the strategic ability effect is not significant. The knowledge management development phase of China’s AEC firms are different from western countries, therefore, the order parameter forming path and system evolution track of muti-project knowledge resources collaborative management show difference.(2) Study on the capacity evaluation of multi-project knowledge resource collaborative management of AEC firms.Capacity evaluation index of multi-project knowledge resource collaborative management is constructed based on the ability model. Through the empirical analysis of 48 samples, the model is modified and the capacity indexs are calculated. Comparison and ranking among AEC enterprise samples are realized as well. As the conclusion, the capacity level of multi-project knowledge resources collaborative management in most China’s AEC firms is really low at present, so abilities should be enhanced urgently.(3) Study on ability cultivation and promotion strategies of muti-project knowledge resource collaborative management in AEC firms.Three sub capacities are weak, the cause of poor ability formation problems are interpreted with the help of exploratory factor analysis and system dynamics (SD) analysis tools. General and special strategies are raised. Three special strategies are proposed, those are PMO as dedicated knowledge managemen organization strategy, knowledge sharing improvement strategy of project manager based on the theory of planned behavior and SD, knowledge sharing performance evaluation strategy of PMO and project manager.The study will enrich and expand muti-project management theory and synergy knowledge management theory, AEC enterprises can also enhance their competitivenesses through implementing multi-project knowledge resource collaborative management, all of which have important theoretical and practical significance.
