A Study On Vietnam 's Economic Transformation And Development From The Perspective Of Political Economics

The Renovation process (Doi Moi) initiated and led by the Communist Party of Viet Nam has, so far, obtained tremendous achievements. The thesis has, therefore, studied, analyzed and assessed the transformation process of the economic growth model that has been carried out over the last nearly 30 years since the start of the Renovation process in 1986. Through this, the author has made assessments on the achievements that the Renovation process has brought about, the linkage between the growth model transformation and economic development in this process of Viet Nam and the remaining issues and limitations of the Renovation process that need to be addressed in order to develop a stable, sustainable and highly productive economic growth model. Based on the analyses of the implementation process, in combination with experience learnt from economic growth models of countries with similar economic institution, the Thesis has shown the challenges and opportunities that the Vietnamese economy is likely to encounter in the coming time, and thus, made recommendations on the economic growth model transformation of Viet Nam.The Thesis is organized into seven chapters which focus on analyzing the implementation and causes of the Renovation process in Viet Nam, evaluating the achievements, remaining issues, limitations, lessons learnt in the relationship between the growth model and economic development of Viet Nam in the last nearly 30 years, as well as delivering recommendations, proposals on policy and institution-related economic growth model of Viet Nam in the time to come. The chapters are as follows:Chapter â… :Introduction of the Thesis that presents the context, research objectives and research methodology regarding the topic of the Thesis. Chapter â…¡:Basis for argument and synthesis of relevant referencing materials that mainly analyze theories as well as referencing materials introducing different views on the relationship between the growth model and economic development in the Renovation process of Viet Nam. Chapter â…¢:Focusing on analyzing historical context, the growth model transformation and economic development of Viet Nam in the last nearly 30 years. Chapter IV:Experience on growth model transformation and economic development applicable to Viet Nam. In this chapter, the Thesis has done in-depth analysis, lessons comparison regarding economic development process of various countries, particularly those countries that have similar economic institution with Viet Nam such as China, the former Soviet Union, and the former Eastern European countries in order to draw lessons for the economic growth model of Viet Nam. Chapter V:The Thesis has assessed the major achievements as well as remaining issues and limitations in the transformation process of the Vietnamese economic development model. Chapter VI:Recommendations on main policy solutions to promote the growth model transformation process and economic development of Viet Nam in the coming time. This is the core content that showcases the clearest views of the author on the main topic of the Thesis. Chapter VII: Conclusion and research outlook of the Thesis.The main contribution of this paper is to discuss the reform and opening up process of Vietnam and its characteristics, and to analyze the essence of "socialist oriented market economy" in Vietnam, and put forward some suggestions on deepening reform and opening up.
