Under the background of open innovation, more and more attention is paid to thedevelopment and utilization of enterprise external resources. With the arousing ofusers’ innovative awareness and the changing of traditional ideas about marketing,users become active innovators and try to satisfy their diversified demand throughinnovation. In the meantime, the rapid development of modern information andnetwork communication technology furnishes users with essential innovative toolsand approach, and provides an effective platform for users to obtain professionalskills, improve innovative capability, and facilitate knowledge learning andinnovation diffusion. Consequently, user innovation becomes a reality. Moreover,users, as the providers of market information and innovators, are one of the mostimportant external resources, so how to identify and cultivate lead users accuratelyand encourage them to participate actively in innovation becomes a remarkable issuein the domain of the enterpriseinnovation management as well as the key ofimproving enterprise’s core competitiveness.This dissertation is a comprehensive and systematic study on user innovation,which employed a lot of principles and methodologies of System Dynamics, GameTheory, Network Effect, Diffusion Theory etc. This study includes two parts–theoretical explanation part and empirical research part. The theoretical explanationpart focuses on the origin, definition, interpretation from multiple perspectives,formation and evolution, laws and traits, and effect and pattern of user innovation.The empirical research part takes Huawei as an example and tries to support therelevant conclusions drawn in the theoretical explanation part, and expounds thebasic approach and mode of user innovation.Specifically, this dissertation falls into8chapters:The first chapter is introduction, which is mainly about the research backgroundand significance, related literature review, research contents and methods as well astechnical route. Chapter two involves the basic theories frame of user innovation. The concepts,traits and functions of user innovation and other relevant theories are defined andanalysed by reviewing the development of innovation theory and the origin of userinnovation, which offer theoretical foundation for the following chapters. And thesystem of user innovation is dissected for revealing the composition and structure ofuser innovation.Chapter three analyses the dynamic mechanism of user innovation. The dynamicelements and dynamic mechanism are discussed based on the summary of innovativeimpetus. Then the system of user innovation is explored and simulated by SystemDynamics.Chapter four analyses the evolution mechanism of the behavior of userinnovation. The theoretical basis of user innovation is explored by principal-agenttheory, Pareto improvement and utility theory. Then, a model of the behavior of userinnovation is built by evolutionary game theory and is simulated by SystemDynamics, with the purpose of acquiring the inner mechanism of the behavior ofuser innovation.Chapter five focuses on the three effects of user innovation: Network Effect,Diffusion Effect and Risk Effect.(1) Information transfer effect, collaborativeinnovation effect and external economy effect are explored by studying theconstruction and characteristics of user innovation network.(2) Diffusion Effect ofuser innovation is investigated through Bass Diffusion Model and System Dynamics.(3) Risk factors of user innovation are examined for lucubrating risk temptationeffect, risk constraint effect and risk balance effect of user innovation.Chapter six explores the mode of user innovation. The two modes of userinnovation based on lead users and user toolkits are analyzed separately.Identification factor system of lead users is set up, and is evaluated and selectedthrough rough set theory. The process and realizing condition for the mode of userinnovation based on user toolkits is detected. And the comparison of these twomodes is conducted. And finally a new mode of user innovation is put forward.Chapter seven is the case study of Huawei. The basic situation of Huawei’s userinnovation is introduced, and the implementation framework, process, mode and the critical factors of user innovation in Huawei is dissected emphatically, and Huawei’sroute of enterprise technological innovation is obtained finally which provides areference for other enterprises in terms of implementing user innovation.
