With the rapid development of computer science, network and communication technologies, mankind has entered a digital information age, characterized by information interactions. Unreasonable information design of digital interface brings users obstacles in understanding, learning and using it. In the production, engineering, military and many other fields, the unreasonable information design also generates cognitive difficulty with cognitive overloaded and low situation awareness. Breaking through digital interface design from areas of visual communication and beautification, digital interface design and evaluation methods based on relevant cognitive mechanism are researched.In terms of human-computer digital interface design, optimization and evaluation, reasonable cognitive load and situation awareness with efficient decision support is considered the primary goals. Firstly, based on information processing theory, cognitive load model is initially constructed with the limited capacity awareness of cognitive resources and working memory, therefore the formation mechanism and effective control strategies are derived. The human factors of situation awareness in digital interface information design are concluded by analyzing situation awareness information processing model, dynamic decision model and information processing chain model.Secondly, three guiding principles of digital interface information design are proposed:the visualization design principle of digital interface information elements, by considering human visual physiological limitations and characteristics; the cognitive design principle of digital interface information sensation, perception, memory and thinking steps, affected by human cognitive abilities, habits and limitation; the experience design principle with digital interface sensory experiences, emotional experiences and cultural experiences, generated from human spiritual needs and emotional features.Thirdly, discussions are carried out on three methods:the visual symbol coding of digital interface information entity attributes, the structural visualization coding of relation attributes among the entities and knowledge visualization coding of information comprehensive. The corresponding coding adaptation between visual variables of abstract graph symbol and information entity attributes is analyzed. The basic form and evolution of visualization structure coding is summarized. The knowledge visualization coding strategy of complex procedural knowledge in the digital interface is put forward based on knowledge behavior, including goal orientation and goal-condition-mean from knowledge representation. Finally, three information design evaluation models of digital interface are presented:one information design evaluation model of digital interface based on performance; one information visual search evaluation model based on eye tracking; and another information processing evaluation model based on eye tracking. In the meantime, evaluative experiments are set out applying the three models.
