In recent years, chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, are accounting for the highest number of deaths in the world. Research shows that proper physical activity has clear health benefits, especially in preventing and controlling chronic diseases. If we can adopt wide coverage, low cost, and targeted health promotion services for the public health to address the pressing problem of chronic disease prevention and intervention, it is expected to ease the current NCD high incidence problem, and socio-economic burden. Especially in developing countries like China, with large population but relatively scarce medical resources, the enhancement of the treatment efficiency and the mass adoption of information science is urgently needed, so as to enhance the physical health of the citizens, and to promote the harmonious development of society and families. With the above goals in mind, we have designed and developed a health promotion service system based on exercise intervention. The main contents of this paper include the following aspects.1. Design of a closed-loop health promotion service system. In common fitness guide processes, many areas are often fragmented or incomplete, therefore cannot form a complete closed-loop. This reduces the efficiency of the system, and increases operating costs and resource consumption, especially when considering the limited medical expert resources. To address of the problem, we established a closed-loop system for health promotion, which covers all major steps of scientific exercise intervention. The steps include health and medical examination, Motor function test, integrated assessment, deducing fitness guide programs, as well as the execution of the exercise prescription and optimization based on feedback, etc. We designed the basic principle of the overall structure and service business logics, also covered the design of key system components.2. Research on terminal services and technologies of the service system. In order to meet the needs of a closed-loop intervention system, we studied the interaction mechanism of health data and services, to achieve effective integration of testing and fitness devices. On that basis, we developed exergaming guide system and chronic disease tracking App, in order to enrich the types of intervention program, and increase the user compliance and intervention efficiency. The exergaming guide system can parse exercise prescriptions and guide the user through the game training procedure, while monitoring and transmitting user fitness data; chronic disease tracking App is used in user’s daily life rather than only in gyms and hospitals, to keep tracking signs and indicators of long-term health data, and help users to develop healthy lifestyle.3. Securing health and medical data of the system. With the development of various testing and training equipment with information technologies, including the recent rise of wearable devices, security and privacy of health care systems become a major concern for research. Our system is also facing similar challenges. We utilized blockchain technology which derives from crypto currencies, to ensure the protection level of our system while preserving user data privacy. Data are verified in all subsystems and terminal devices for correct data sources, and at all stages of production deployment and operation of equipment we adopted full life cycle of components’ security management, to ensure information security and user privacy data to be inviolable.4. System assessment and demonstration applications. To verify the functionality and effectiveness of the system, we performed a series of evaluation and demonstration applications for the system. First, we conduct security assessments of data protection. We analyzed the strategy, feasibility of a potentially successful attack, and the economic costs for data security protection. Secondly, we carried out health intervention trials, tracked the experimental data change of multiple important health parameters including lipids, blood pressure and fat content, etc., which demonstrate the effectiveness of the exercise interventions by our system; Finally, we started a demonstration application of our system in a key hospital in Beijing, and also in Anhui Province National Physique Monitoring Centre, to verify the feasibility and functions by field-testing of the system. In summary, we developed a health promotion intervention system features good intervention effect, data security, low cost, and ease of deployment. We believe this work will help to promote the use of information technology in fitness guide and enhance the exercise intervention efficiency, and further contribute to enhancing the public physical health and socio-economic development.
