Thought and theory reflect objective reality. The rise of the study of publicity theory is just the reflection of the objective reality of people’s publicity crisis. Nowadays the rapid development of commodity economy not only brings the increasing richness of material wealth, but also brings the pervasion of consumerism. Interpersonal communication evolves into a kind of instrumental communication which is based on benefit exchange, and at the same time the personal relations are generalized as a kind of secular resource. As human beings, people concern on and pursue the happiness brought by grabbing material benefits too much, while ignore the happiness brought by the existence itself of the relations with others. As a result, the anxiety of rootlessness and wandering of the heart hang over modern people, which reflect that fundamentally speaking, the weakness of people’s sense of belonging is because the lack of publicity. Based on this social reality and learning from the research results of publicity from different areas at home and aboard, this article interprets the publicity of human by using dialectical and historical materialism as guiding ideology.The discourse system of this paper is theory system of Marxism philosophy. The text of Marxism philosophy contains a wealth of ideas related to publicity, which is not only reflected in a series of "public" prefix concepts in the discourse system of Marxism philosophy, such as "public interest" and "public communication", but also reflected in the understanding of human activities from the viewpoint of historical materialism: the first basic practice in human history is to deal with the relationship between man and nature, or called material production practice, while since the power of an individual person is limited, people struggle with the nature in the form of community when a limited individual person is unable to realize his various needs. These embody the publicity spirit of Marxism philosophy. But after all Marxism philosophy has no standard definition and clear exposition on the concept of publicity and no systematic theoretical system about publicity of human, therefore there is still a broad study space for the publicity of human in the historical materialism discourse system.In this paper, we firstly cogitate and analyze the concept of the publicity of human. The publicity of human is a kind of social historical phenomenon which is based on the personal independence and freedom, in the form of public opinions and consensuses. Publicity is a kind of living state for people existing as group, and the living state is higher than the sociality of people; it is a modern quality that people should have in modern society; it is also a kind of ideality, whose mature and integrity not only accords with the achievement of the personality for people, but also accords with the free and all-round development of the people in the future.Based on the analysis of the concept, this paper reviews the historical patterns of publicity from the historical development dimension. Publicity is a social and historical concept which has its own history of producing, developing and maturing, and has different historical states in different periods of development. The publicity of human has its latent form in the traditional society, but it is not the true kind of publicity, and actually it is just a kind of public spirit on the moral level, which can be regarded as the bud of publicity. The real publicity is formed in modern society, which is largely due to the development of modern state political power, social organizations and modern media. With the advance of social historical development and modernization, the development of publicity will have mutual enrichment with the development of human’s modernity, thus the free man unified body will gradually become the human existence state and public organization, and the publicity of human will eventually achieve mature and perfection.After the interpretation of the concept of publicity and its historical development, this paper further discusses the characteristics and types of the publicity. The publicity of human has three notable features as intercommunity, openness and fairness. Taking property, gradation, state and value evaluation as the standard, there are many types of publicity. In spite of these different types and features, the publicity of human still has a unified centralized embodiment, which on one hand is a common concern point and a common activity field, while on the other hand is a harmonious unity of vitality and order.Finally, under the premise of analysis in theory and the guidance of historical materialism, and based on the social reality especially the one in China today, this paper faces the social problem of the lack of publicity, then analyzes the social causes of the public crisis, and explore the path of publicity cultivation. The path is that by seizing public interest as the fundamental point and deliberative democracy as the key, and setting moral construction and system reform as the ideological and institutional guarantee respectively, we should cultivate the publicity of human consciously, to make the construction of publicity is in the direction of establishing the free man unified body, and to guide the all-round development of human freedom, and also to further promote the modernization of China’s construction.
