Christianity And The Cultural Changes Of Miao People In Yunnan Province

The Hmong nationality is an ancient ethic group in the history of China. Because of political、economic、and social reason, The Miao nation migrated constantly, from the early settlement——the Yellow River and the Yangtze river to the frontier provinces, such as Yunnan and Guizhou in China. The portion of The Miao ethic group gradually moved to Yunnan in the Yuan、Ming and Qing period, there are in the big scattered, small groups formation. The Yunnan Hmong mostly lives the alpine and inconvenient region. Since modern times, compared to the Han ethic group resistances in the central areas, the Christian religion as a western culture, have been the rapid development in ethnic minority areas in Yunnan, the religious minority involves the Hmong nationality, this phenomenon is worth studying. According to the related recordation, Yunnan Miao ethic group converted to the Christian religion in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The Miao ethic group in the southern of Yunnan, believes in Catholic, The Miao ethic group in the north and north of Yunnan, believes in Christian. Compared to Hunan, Guizhou and Sichuan, the Yunnan Miao, the studies on Yunnan Miao nationality is less, the studies main focus on the Miao nationality traditional culture and economic research, etc, the studies relatively narrow range. Based on the religious around the investigation, this paper studies on the belief of the Miao nationality in Yunnan, hope it can show the Christian religion how to influence the current social and cultural situation of the Miao nationality in Yunnan, reveal the influence of Christianity in Miao, including the effects of positive and negative aspects, then avoiding disadvantages, guiding the Christian religion in the Miao nationality society play a positive role. In the paper, on the basis of the theories and methods from the Marxist materialism, the religious sociology, the anthropology of religion and the religious culture, focusing on the study of Christianity in the social vicissitude and the social culture of Miao nationality in Yunnan province, on the basis of this revealed the development trend of social culture that the Christian religion in Yunnan Miao nationality and the social influence.This paper divides into five parts, the first part introduces the basis of the selected topic, the theoretical methods as well as the study of the previous scholars; the second part mainly talks about the history of Yunnan Hmong Christian religion, the chosen agency research point of the Miao nationality. From the third part to the fifth part is the main part of the article, using the theories and the views of the religious sociology, the religious multiculturalism, used field survey to collect various data, analyzes the Christian religion, in social change, hoe to influence the social culture of the Miao nationality, the Miao society development trend. The third part is mainly on the basis of the theory of religious sociology functionalism, from a social individual——Hmong believers and social groups——he church two aspects, study the influence of Christianity on the Yunnan Miao society; the fourth part mainly applying the viewpoints of religious multiculturalism, combined with field investigation, from two aspects of the Miao Christian religious custom and ethics, studies the influence of the Christian religion in Yunnan Miao culture; the fifth part, used the related theories and methods of the religious sociology、the materialism and the religious multiculturalism,studies in the social politics, economy, science and technology and religious secular aspects of transition, the influences of the Christian religion in the social culture of the Miao ethnic group, predicts the Miao future development trend in the social culture, and puts forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions.
