| For the past few years, the national social history study on the southwest frontierarea has attracted people’s attention day by day. The study on the caravan merchantfrom the Hui nationality in Yunnan province of modern times is an important topic inthe modern research on the economy and social history of Hui people in Yunnan. Asthe most active businessmen in modern Hui people rural society, the caravan is ofgreat influence to the social change of modern Hui people in Yunnan. By employingthe methodology of history, ethnology, sociology, geography and other disciplines,this paper will study the social change of modern Hui people in Yunnan through theinfluence on the family, community and class in their rural society by those caravanmerchants; and it will also elaborate their interaction and integration with regionalrural society which they can’t leave behind, and explore how it affects the modernYunnan Hui people’s rural social change so profoundly. The whole paper consists ofintroduction, text, conclusion and reference.The introduction presents the Selected topic reason, the significance of this topic,the research review, and the research methods. The text is divided into four parts: thefirst part discusses the origin and development of Hui people in Yunnan, theformation of caravan merchants and their distribution and specific situation in modernYunnan. The second part discusses the influence on Hui people’s family relations andfamily economic function change in the countryside by the modern caravanmerchants of Hui people. The third part expounds their impact on agribusinesscultural tradition, community education, and the change of community publicconstruction in the village community of Hui people. The last part deals with theformation and growth of the caravan merchants in modern times, the forming of thesquire group forces, and the development of overseas Chinese due to the caravanmerchants’ business. |
