Objective To explore the mechanism of the repair of chronic spinal cord injury with auto peripheral nerve graft tissue on rats. Methods The SD rats were established into SCI model with modified Allen method .The rats were divided into two parts 12 weeks after the injury. In experimental group: the sural nerves were removed epineurium with microsurgical technique and transplanted into SCI lesion ,in control group the SCI lesion were only revealed without sural nerve grafts. The survival differentiation of the grafts, the ability of repairing host spinal cord were observed and evaluated with the method of pathology, electrophysiology and ethology respectively in 4,8,12 weeks after operation. Results The histological changes of spinal cord lesion were improved in experimental group; the recovery of SEP and hind limb function were better than control group. Conclusion Auto peripheral nerve grafts treated with microsurgical technique have repairing effect on chronic spinal cord injury in rats .
