Gonorrhea is one kind of sexual transmitted disease which can cause huge harm to the human. Its pathogenic bacteria can elaborate an extracellular enzyme, IgA1 pratease which can specifically cleave the human IgA, into Fab and Fc fragments, and then the Fab can not stimulate Fc-dependent function and can affect the normal immunologic response and improve its invasiveness. Today the gonococcal IgA protease structure and function and its gene character are studied clearly, especialy the study on goncococal iga has been made large progress. The significance of this kind study is far more than the study on gonococal pathogenicity itself.
