Glucocorticoid administration is a predisposing factor most commonly associated with the development of nontraumatic osteonecrosis (ON). The incidence of ON in patients with SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) was reported at 32.7 percent of patients receiving high doses of corticosteroid. The therapeutic use of glucocorticoids has risen continuously all over the world in recent years, the number of ON increased continuously. But to date there are no effective and therapeutic methods available in dealing with such severe and urgent threats.Although any age group of the population may develop ON, most patients are between 20 and 50 years old, with the average age in the late 30's.
