| Background:Intestinal ischemia and hypoxia injury (I/H) is one of common tissue lesions in shock, burn and surgery practice etc. It not only can elicit topical lesion in alimentary tract, but also can lead to translocation of bacteria and endotoxin from intestine into systemic circulation, which can elicit a series of reactions in reticuloendothelial system (RES), and then release a great amount of associated intermediators and cytokines. Sometimes it results in Systematic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS)and Multiple Organ DysfunctionSyndrome (MODS). Therefore, scholars think highly of protecting intestinal barrier from ischemia and hypoxia injury to avoid translocation of bacteria and endotoxin. It is one of important topic to find effective drugs to protecting intestinal barrier from injury. In recent years, under the lead of"Intestinal target theory"many chemical and biochemical drugs were developed for protecting intestinal barrier from ischemia and hypoxia injury. But there are many defective factors to limited use them in clinical. Such as inefficiency, side-effect and high expensive etc. Compared with them, natural drugs have many advantages in side effect and environmental pollution etc. Recently, Studies demonstrate that the traditional Chinese medicine can protect intestinal tract from ischemia and hypoxia injury in many pathways. Such as improving microcirculation, inhibiting apoptosis and cleaning free radical etc. It has attracted many eyes focus on the study of natural drugs. But it is also found that the most investigation work concentrates on the single component or single drugs. To some degree, advantages of compound of natural drugs have not been brought into full play sufficiently to treatment on intestinal tract injury. It cannot catch up with the pace of clinical need.
