With the actual situation of AIDS/STD, it is an important to utilize all the health resource and infrastructure to provide AIDS/STD preventive service for decision-making at the national level. Experiences from some developing countries in Africa have shown that it is effective, feasible and higher cost-effective to integrate AIDS/STD prevention service into the family planning program for promoting reproductive health and control of AIDS epidemic in women. The objectives of this project is to study the feasibility of integrating AIDS/STD prevention into family planning service in China, to provide a more comprehensive service model coping with China's situation and to evaluate the effectiveness and benefit of the model which has both theoretical and practice values.The evaluation research for integrating AIDS/STD prevention into FP service in China has been the pioneer of its kind.In the study, all different level's FP institutes were selected as study fields in Hefei city in Anhui province, including one of each at the city, district, county and village levels FP institutes were selected as the pilot study fields. Workers from the FP service institutes in the study field and the clients seeking for FP service during April through August 1998 were selected as research subjects. Contents of the study are: (1) investigation on needs and demand of AIDS/STD prevention service among the female clients under FP service; (2) evaluation on the capability of FP service institutes for providing the AIDS/STD prevention service. (3) study on knowledge, attitude, belief and behaviors of AIDS/STD/Reproductive health of the FP providers; (4) developing a model integrating AIDS/STD prevention into existing FP program; (5) analysis on policies; (6) evaluation on the effectiveness and benefit of the model; (7) Barriers on the integration of service and the requirements...
