We deeply comprehend that the main characteristics in chronic progress of prime renal disease include debility, dampness (or heat) and congestion. The root causes of the illness stem from a debilitative kidney, external and internal damage, deficiency of vital energy and blood, the disfunction of viscera, which yield pathologic products of dampness, heat and congestion. After long term, it will form pathologic result of a debilitative kidney. Prolonged dampness would produce poison, and as a result lead to chronic renal failure and uremia. So we think the microcosmic pathologic mechanism of chronic kidney disease is a debilitative kidney, dampness and congestion. We think that debility, dampness and congestion feature the chronic kidney disease. In view of the pathology of debility, dampness and congestion, we establish the guiding principle of nourishing the kidney, reducing poison and revitalizing energy. The overall doctrine is to seek root cause in curing a disease and prevent further changes in a disease. In specific prescriptions we give prominence to opsonizing lung, spleen and kidney, and give due consideration to dampness (heat) and congestion. We will improve health by assisting righteousness, prevent progress in renal fibrosis through reducing vicious disease and preventing its recurrence.Common diseases causing progressive chronic renal failure, whatever the initiating injury, are associated with fibrosis. Although these chronic tubulointerstitial changes have long been known to parallel closely a decline in renal function, and to have prognostic significance, their genesis and role in progression have received little attention until...
