Among the existent meridian-collateral diagrams, Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram played an important role in breaking new ground for the future, which influenced the later meridian-collateral diagrams directly or indirectly. But the former researches on Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram had some difficulty in carrying on, due to failure of getting Song and Yuan dynasties' editions of the book HUORENSHU , written by Zhu Gong. Recently, our research office gained these two editions of books, CHONGJIAOZHENGHUO-RENSHU (Song dynasty), SHANGHANBAIWENJINGLUOTU (published by Yanshanhuoji-tang of Yuan dynasty) and another edition of Yuan dynasty ZENGZHULEIZHENG-HUORENSHU from Japan and Taiwan, which provided the necessary historical data for our research.Beginning with the source-course verification of the different editions of Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties, this research focused on the six meridian-collateral diagrams drawn by Zhu Gong in his book HUORENSHU, to study the source-course and evolution of Zhugong's meridian-collateral diagram in different editions, and analyse the evolutive reason and its influence on the later Meridian-collateral diagrams. And this research also studied the difference between the anterior and posterior course of Foot-Shaoyin-Kidney Meridian. Based on those, the evolution of all existent Meridian-collateral diagrams was studied. In the research methods, this research tried to integrate philology (literature) method with the methods of historical science and academic history, which were adopted dispersedly before. And we are trying to make a new attempt in methodology.Generally speaking, our research mainly studied the following aspects:(1) The first is to verify the editions' source-course of Zhugong's book HUORENSHU.Through the verification of all editions of Song, Yuan, Ming dynasties, the result manifested that the book HUORENSHU has two discending edition system as follows:One is: SHANGHANBAIWEN (the earliest edition, three volumes, Song dynasty, missing) - SHANGHANBAIWENJINGLUOTU (published by Yanshanhuojitang, Yuan dynasty, existing), SHANGHANBAIWEN (six volumes, published in the third year of Baoli, Japan, existing). The other is: CHONGJIAOZHENGHUORENSHU (Song dynasty, existing) — ZENGSHINANYANGHUORENSHU (Song dynasty, missing) — ZENGZHULEIZHENG-HUORENSHU (saved in Taiwan, Yuan dynasty) — the editions of Ming and Qing dynasties.(2) The second is to study the drawing evidence and academic origin of Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram. The verification result showed that, the six meridian-collateral diagrams in CHONGJIAOZHENGHUORENSHU were transplanted from Zhu Gong's another book NEIWAIERJINGTU m in 1118 when he was revising CHONGJIAOZHENGHUORENSHU. And the words of the meridian course and symptoms in the text were adapted according to the book HUANGDINEIJINGTAISU, while the schematic words of meridian course and acupoints in Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram was mainly derived from Wang Weiyi's TONGRENSHUXUEZHENJIUTUJING. And the drawing of Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram mainly referred to Yang Jie's HUANZHONGTU, but it has academic source with other acupuncture-moxibustion diagrams. For example, the meridian course of Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram was drawn as double line like tubular shape under the influence of Shi Cangyong's color bronze-statue diagram. As for the indicating style of meridian course in Yanshanhuojitang's edition of Yuan dynasty, some points with detailed explanation were drawn on the diagram instead of meridian course, which is the same as ZIWULIUZHUZHENJING, and both books were published by Yanshanhuojitang. So it can be deduced that this change in indicating style of meridian course probably related to the publisher.(3) The third is to clarify the evolution of Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram in different editions of HUORENSHU, and further analysed the reason for the different course of Foot-Shaojin-Kidney meridian. The verification result showed that, in the earlist two books SHANGHANBAIWEN and NANYANGHUORENSHU, there were no meridian-collateral diagrams. So in the existent edition of Song dynasty is the meridian-collateral diagram drawn by Zhu Gong himself. And this research studied the source-course of meridian-collateral diagram in all editions before Ming dynasty from two aspects of diagram's drawning and schematic words, as shown in thefollowing structure chart.CHONGJIAOZHENGHUORENSHU (Song dynasty)SHANGHANBAIWENJINGLUOTU, published by Yanshanhuojitang, Yuan dynastyZENGZHULEIZHENGHUORENSHU, saved in Taiwan, Yuan dynastyWu Mingfeng's edition, Ming dynastyYIFANGLEIJU's editionWu Mianxue's edition, Ming dynastyXu Rong's edition, published in 1616, Ming dynastySHISIJINGFAHUIThe Source-Course Diagram Of Zhu Gong's Meridian-Collateral DiagramHere, what should be figured out is that, the meridian-collateral diagram in Xu Rong's edition HUORENSHU published in 1616 was mistaken for the original diagram drawn by Zhu Gong himself for a long time, which had seriously affected the research on meridian-collateral diagram and acupoint diagram. In fact, this series of meridian-collateral diagram was adapted from the acupoint diagram of SHISIJINGFAHUI, and lost the original form of Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram.During the research on the Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram, we found that Foot-Shaoyin-Kidney Meridian has two kinds of meridian course, which are completely different, one is anterior, the other is posterior. Our research analysed the difference combined with literature record and the rule of meridian course, and cleared the argument about Kidney-meridian course.Additionally, our research studied all of the existent meridian-collateral diagrams in every dynasty, and generalized the evolutive rule. And it can be seen that Yang Jie's HUANZHONGTU and Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram are the origins of the latermeridian-collateral diagrams.(4) The last is to include the apocalypse from the research. From the verification of source-course of Zhu Gong's meridian-collateral diagram, we could see some questions in present research, for example, the researchers haven't realized the importance of literature research to experience and clinic research, the source verification of historical data is very weak, and it is urgent to do the research on academic history. And I think all of these must be paid more attenttion to.
