In the medical history of China, Zhang Zhongjing, a physician in Eastern Han Dynasty, wrote two important medical books. Systematic studies had been made on the formation and spread history of Shanghan Lun (Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases) and relative achievements were gained. However, very few systematic relative studies were made on Jinkui Yaolve Fan. Methods of bibliography, science of edition, documentation, as well as statistics were used in the study on Jinkui Yaolve Fang. Systematic research and analysis were made on the 22 medical books written in and before Song Dynasties (also include Jin Dynasty at the same period) that were related to the spread of Zhang Zhongjing's medical books. And word to word and sentence to sentence comparisons were made to seek the source text of Jinkui Yaolve Fang. This study possesses significant value of Chinese bibliography in investigating the spread history of Jinkui Yaolve Fang and the source of Zhang Zhongjing's academic ideas, as well as analyzing the formation and evolvement of his theory of miscellaneous disease.1. In Northern Song Dynasty, the concept of"Yuhan"gradually changed from treasure to receptacle for storing treasures, which is similar to the meaning of"Jinkui". Since the time of Ge Hong,"Yuhan"was first used in medical books. It can be proved by the poems written by famous poets in Song and Tang Dynasties, which indicated that"Yuhan"represented medical formulae and treasures. With the reduction of the concept of"Yuhan", it was not surprised to find that"Yuhan"and"Jinkui"were used to name the medical books in Song and Tang Dynasties."Yaolve (synopsis)"means to outline the essentials and discuss the cardinal principles."Fang (Formula)"primarily refers to parallel two boats, and a formula consists of simple drugs or several herbs.
