Combining literature research and statistic analysis, this dissertation summarizes and compares the TCM formulae for treatment of pediatric epilepsy based on varied literatures since Han Dynasty. In the first part of this thesis, the philology methods are used to collect old and modern literatures and systematically analyze the evolution of disease names, pathogen, pathogenesis, differentiation of symptoms and signs, treatment rules, recipe and herbs, prescription experience, and modern experimental studies. The second part is mainly focused on the statistic analysis on 735 recipes for therapy of epilepsy recorded across more than 1700 years. The frequency analysis, factor analysis and clustering analysis are respectively used to compare and explore the characteristics and syndrome treatment regular rules for epilepsy at different historical periods before Song Dynasty, Song, Jin and Yuan Dynasties, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and modern times. The rules of syndrome treatment and compatibility of herbs for this disease are specially studied in a whole. At last part, based on the results from literature research and statistic analysis and TCM theory, the viewpoints on epilepsy's pathogen, pathogenesis, consideration facing patient, differentiation of symptoms and signs, treatment rules, are refreshed. The pathogenesis for pediatric epilepsy is explored by combing pathogen, focus and constitutional factors. The basic recipe to cure pediatric epilepsy is concluded and the new system for syndrome differentiation and treatment is proposed in a creative way. Also, the constitution labile to epilepsy is studied for the first time. The function of traditional minerals for soothing the nerves and highly poisonous herbs is explored and the clinical application potentials are expected. These studies provide new ideas and clues for clinic and scientific researches in the future.
