Acupuncture prescription is the subject, targeted at some pathogenesis or some symptom, to study the therapy of acupuncture, the compatibility of points, the rules of herbal prescription, and the corresponding clinical application. Physicians over the ages, after practicing and summarizing repeatedly, has accumulated a massive amount of acupuncture prescriptions, with about 4300 prescriptions up to now, from Spring and Autumn Period to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Therefore, it’s a shortcut to extract the most valuable location of the points for the prescriptions from the acu-moxibusion poetry, which are applied widely in clinic, and at same time are the summary of experiences themselves. In the case of the therapeutic poetry handed down over the ages, most of them preserve the information about the observation, analysis, diagnosis of the diseases, and the location of the points and the methods of acupuncture from the physicians at that time. Also because of prevailing of the poetry, it is the sources of the location of points for the prescription, which can endure the test most. The prime objective of this study is to sum up the most common diseases treated by acupuncture from the ancient prevailing acu-moxibusion poetry, and to sort out the most basic location of the points for the prescriptions about these common diseases.principles and methodsThe study has applied optimal seeking method, namely, finding the most often used location of points from so many acu-moxibusion poetries. Thus the most often used location of points are the most fundamental one for the prescription for some symptom.The specific methods include collecting, summarizing and collating. The study has collected 24 pieces of therapeutic acu-moxibusion poetry, including Yulongge Verse, Baihengfu Verse,etc. There are two aspects for the procedure of summarizing. On one hand, it is summarizing the locations of the points, on the other hand, it is summarizing the symtoms in the acu-moxibusion poetry, by sorting them out. Based on the result above, the study collates the locations of the points and the symptoms respectively.Conclusions Based on the summarizing and collating of the 24 pieces of therapeutic acumoxibusion poetry, the study arrives at the following conclusions:1. The study has summarized 20 most common locations of points in the acumoxibusion poetry, including Zusanli, Hegu, Weizhong, Taichong, Zjpmgwam, Quchi, Qihai, Zhaohai, Lieque, Yanglingquan, Yongquan, Sanyinjiao, Huantiao, Houxi, Kunlun, Daling, Chengshan, Neiguan, Dadun, Neiting, and Tongli repeatedly appearing in the Tianxingshiyixuege and other verses. The study advocate the idea of 21 well-chosen points, which are most often used in clinic, and investigate the related patterns. 2. Based on the 21 points, the study summarizes the 35 prescriptions for the 21 points in all the poetries. 3. The study points out the repetition in the acu-moxibusion poetry, and in accordance with this, summarizes 27 most common locations of points for the prescription. 4. The study summarizes 40 most common symptoms in the acu-moxibusion poetry, extracting the most basic locations of points for them. And according to thsi, the study also summarizes a lot of features of the locations of points, and proposes two pattern of the locations of points, with Quleibixiang and Zangfubietong respectively. 5. In the process of collating the related poetry, the study had found out some issues in the philology. The study certifies that the sources of Yulongge verse is from Zhenjiushenshu, that the method of "danjie" should be the meaning of reinforcing and reducing methods, and that the relations of Tianxingxuege verse have been straightened. Moreover, the study discusses the controversial sentences in Tongxuanzhiyaofu verse, and investigates the point of Zhongkuixue.
