Psychoactive mushrooms, commonly called magic mushrooms and sacred mushrooms, are a cohort of macro-fungi that contain active tryptamines in their mycelia and/or fruit bodies, which will cause psychedelic intoxication for human and other vertebrates. Active tryptamines refer to the various psychedelic tryptamines, with an indole group and a dimethylamine group in structure, including psilocybin, psilocin, baeocystin and norbaeocystin found in nature. The hallucinogenic mushrooms are widely distributed throughout the world, including Psilocybe, Gymnopilus, Panaeolus, Copelandia, Hypboloma, Pluteus, Inocybe, Conocybe, Panaeolina, Gerronema, Agrocybe etc.The symptoms of intoxication of the mushrooms and toxins are those of dizziness, numbness of the tongue, lips or mouth, shivering or sweating, nausea, anxiety, altered sensory perception (particularly visual and aural), hallucinations and alterations of body image etc. Because of the abuse of the mushrooms and toxins, the use and proliferation of the toxins or mushrooms were restricted in some western countries. However, the potentials of the toxins and mushrooms in the study and treatment of some psychosis, e.g. schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder and so on, in treatment of cluster headache and giving up smoking and drinking, in study of human brain, the study and application of the toxins and mushrooms have never been halted. The habitats, distribution and identification of the mushrooms, the pharmacology, preparation, determination, synthesis, metabolism and application of active tryptamines were studied. The study of the mushrooms and toxins in China are very limited except for some investigations of habitats of some species. The determination, synthesis and exploration of the toxins are not carried out.Psilocybe fasciata, a hallucinogenic mushroom that naturally occurred...
