Comparisons were made on reclaimed water(RW) irrigated lawns of perennial Kentucky bluegrass, which has been practiced on this area for more than 4 years, and drinking water (DW) irrigated lawns of perennial Kentucky bluegrass as a control in Taoranting Garden, Beijing. Various methods of statistics, quantitative ecology and microbial ecology were selected to analysis the effects of reclaimed water irrigation on soil-vegetation-microbe system. The effects on physiololgical ecology of turf irrigated with reclaimed water were investigated in the laborory. The final goal is to discuss the feasibility of using the reclaimed water as an alternative irrigation source for turf-grasses.Government invested in their infrastructure to pump secondary treated water from the Gaobeidian sewage treatment plant to the sixth water source plant where a further water treatment step was implemented. The further treated water, as an irrigation water of reclaimed water, was pump to Taoranting Garden. In this study, 19 chemical and bilolgical attributes of soil at a reclaimed water-irrigated field and its adjacent drinking water-irrigated control were determined with samples collected rhizosphere soil, root soil and non-root soil. The variability of the data was evaluated. The analytic hierarchy pricess method was employed to identify the soil attributes that were most significant in describing the difference between the RW soil and the DW soil and evaluate the soil quality. The cumulated intensity of salinity was increased in soil irrigated with reclaimed water as the control, especially for chlorine and sodium. There is no significant difference of the total nitrogen content in the RW soil and the DW soil. The content of the total phosphorus was increased. The soil fertileity in RW soil was similar to the soil in DW soil. The irrigation of reclaimed water do not change the dynamic rule of microbial population density and enzyme activity, but it do change the distribution pattern in vertical spatital of soil, especially for rhizosphere soil. Variation scale changed according to sensitivity of different biological attributes to reclaimed water. Ultimately, the difference of soil quality irrigated with reclaimed and drinking water was not significant. For understanding the weed community structure and diversity in response to irrigation with reclaimed water and assessing the effects on turf quality, a investation has been conducted on the the changes of diversity indeces, niche breadth and niche overlap in lawn vegetation irrigateied with reclaimed water. The method of analytic hierarchy pricess was also used to assess the turf quality in reclaimed water irrigated vegetation and drinking water irrigated vegetation respectively. The results showed that the species and abundence of weed in weed community were increased as the control. However, little effects on diversity of...
