| 1 Objective: Plantago asiatical L. is a plant of the family Plantaginaceae. Its seeds and herbs,uasually used as medicine, can reducing fever to induce urination, eliminating phlegm, improvingeye-sight, promoting dampness to eliminate stungaria and so on. Now, there are tens of traditionalChinese formulated medicine with Plantago asiatica L.as the key raw material, which are vastlydemanded in the market. As a main producing place, Jiangxi has cultivated Plantago asiatica L.formore than 300 years and it has already become a kind of mass-cultured and mass-manufacturedherbs in Jiangxi Province. By far, Plantago asiatica L. is often cultured by traditional plantingtechniques. Though many treasure experience has been accumulated, problems in the culture alsoarouse. All this shows that the culture of Plantago asiatica L. can't suit to the development oftraditional Chinese medicine into modernization. So far, there is no relative report about the researchon normalization-cultivated technique (GAP) for Plantago asiatica L. in China. This research projectis aimed to develop GAP for Plantago asiatica L.and to conduct the systematic study on its specialphysiological characteristics with high-yielded. Also the research is aimed to increase theproductivity and quality of Plantago asiatica L. to guarantee the good and stable quality, safety andeffectiveness of the medicine, to provide scientific and theoretic proof for the construction of modernbase of the raw material production; meanwhile, it's hoped that this research can be of significantimportance to raise the farmers'income and promote the development in rural areas.2 Methods:Thispaperresearchescomposedofthreeparts. 1). The normalization culture technique research of Plantago asiatica L. The environment ofthe culture base was evaluated by monitoring and single item index method; The criteria ofclassification of seeds and seedlings were founded by field experiments and by the method of clusteranalysis; The growing rules and its special nutrient and physiological characteristics were exploredby observation and growth analysis; The transported rules of N, P, K in Plantago asiatica L and itsproperties of fertilizer demand were done by the analysis of contents of nutrients in its plants; Theproper sowing period and density were explored by single factor randomized block experimentdesign; The scientific fertilization program for its growth, high-yield and good-quality wasconducted by combination design of four factors quadric general rotation; Rules of diseaseoccurrences as well as effective prevention and treatment measures were explored by field surveyand the field experiments for prevention and treatment of diseases. 2) The quality research of Plantain seed. The contents of aucubin in Plantago asiatica L werecalculated in different treatments by HPLC, that of polysaccharides were done by the method ofanthrone—sulphuric acid, that of swell degree of Plantago asiatica L seed in different treatmentswere measured by methods in pharmacopoeia, that of pesticide residual and heavy metals in themedicines were measured and calculated by the analysis of modern apparatus, and finally theABSTRACT Vintegration quality of Plantago asiatica Lseed was judged by mathematical statistics. 3) Physiological study of Plantago asiatica L in its high-yield culture.
