Abstract/Summary:
After 1840, with the penetration of Western culture, a large number of modern architectures, completely western style or Chinese-and-Western style, appeared across the urban of Luzhong Area. These constructions were essential to the layout and appearance of the urban, also being the major bearers for the development of local culture and the reinforcement of city competence. Since the 1980s, along with a rapid urbanization, urban construction processed in full swing, and thus many modern buildings with 100-year history had to deal with huge pressure and great challenges for survival. Recently, along with the implementation of the Scientific Outlook on Development, a number of restoration work on modern architectures had been carried out around this area. However, due to the lack of relevant theories and the absence of successful cases, constructive damages occurred from time to time.Through several fieldworks on the historical modern architectures in Luzhong Area, this paper analyses the contradictions and crisis facing the historical architectures on target. At the same time, based on massive experience from both positive and negative sides, the paper analyses the problems existing in the restoration and reuse of the historical modern architectures in Luzhong Area. Modern architecture shall not just be preserved simply, but reused creatively. Giving thoughts to the factors such as economy, culture, geography in Luzhong Area, this paper proposes with some basic principles to the restoration and reuse of historical modern architectures.Historical modern architectures have great influence to the urban's layout, transportation and landscape. In this paper, an organic concept of"integration·regeneration"is put forward, which is meant to input new energy into historical modern architectures and realize the regeneration by means of the improvement of the whole environment, the optimization of plan and layout, and the enhancement of architectural quality. In addition, several restoration-and-reuse patterns of historical architecture groups are elaborated with examples. Which pattern should be chosen depend on not only noumenal characteristics, but also economy, culture, environment, traffic and other factors. The restoration of a single historical building emphasizes more on relatively micro levels. The so-called"integration·regeneration"concept considers the integration of the architecture's noumenal characteristics, functions, surrounding environment and other relevant factors, determines specific ways and suitable techniques to restore, and realizes the reuse of historical architectures eventually. The methods to the restoration of historical buildings are related to two aspects: the re-use of space and the repair of facades. The major repair techniques are described in detail. The tactics of repair techniques should be based on the objective conditions and protective value standards. Using the after-building evaluation for reference, and combined with the cases of Fengda Mansion's removal and Shandahao courtyard's restoration, this paper evaluated the adaptability and feasibility of restoration tactics, in the goal of summarizing the experience of both the positive and negative sides, in order to offer reference to the similar historical architectures.
