A new type of axially movable vane turbocharger was developed in this dissertation . The structure of the nozzle, shape of vane, matching performance with a diesel engine and nozzle static pressure air blow test were investigated in detail. The main work is as follows:1 .A new kind of axially movable vane turbocharger was presented, and its structure was investigated . This new turbocharger changes the nozzle throat area by the axial moving of nozzle vanes. After comparing two alternatives of this type of nozzle, a simpler type was then developed.2. A new nozzle vane design method for turbocharger was presented. This new method is based on aerodynamics principles to reduce the gas flow friction loss , and get high turbine efficiency. By using of this simple and valid way, three sets of high speed vanes and low speed vanes were designed respectively.3. In order to analyze the performance of nozzle vanes before engine matching test, a static pressure air blow test system controlled by a computer was designed. By doing this test , the blindness of matching test with diesel engines can be avoided, and the validity of matching test can be improved a lot.4. The static pressure air blow test and engine matching test of three sets of high speed and low speed vanes were conducted. The most suitable set of high speed and low speed vane was then selected to make up the axially movable nozzle vane assembly. The test results showed that the new variable nozzle turbocharger expanded the effective torque band and got a lower fuel consumption at wide engine speed range. Therefore, it can be proved that the vane design theory and the new nozzle structure is reasonable and effective .
