Media Architecture

Nowadays with the development of the media technology, we live in the environment of mass printed publication and various images, and also live in the "ubiquitous" world created by the internet, which means being in any time and anywhere. We are acting as receivers of the media as well as the transmitters, and the residences in reality as well as the partners in virtual surroundings. Media has changed the social cultural conformation and people's sensation. Comparing with the other ages in history, this completely different space-time structure which is existing now can be called "media era" or "media society", in corresponding; it is called "media culture" and the individual "media men".Today, we can not imagine the culture apart from media, just as we can never imagine the architecture apart from media. In such a society, where the reality is combined with virtual and media architecture is confused with real architecture, architecture is not only presented within the buildings, but also by the photography, publication, movies, television and internet. Media explain project and modify the architecture by representing, and also assemble, reconfigure, and produce architecture by reproduction. Our space is running to "simulacra" and decentralization through emulation and information interaction. On the other hand, the cities are facing the challenge of construction dissolution and reconstruction.This dissertation provides a new angle to realize the foundation and definition of architecture, by research on the change of the media society and culture. And also, combined with the theory in sociology, esthetics, culture communication, this dissertation specifies chapterally the relationship between architecture/city with photography, movie, television, publication , exhibition, and internet new technology media. Through the research on the examples, it presents the new architectural world reshaped by the media. Further more, through the investigation of people's sensation and effect via mass media, it proves media technology and content have changed the values of architecture philosophically.Finally, this dissertation proposes a new architecture concept in this information times and media society, and it reconsiders and overthrows the substantial and physical value. With the support of a lot of examples, this dissertation gives a prospect and forecast on the "dematerialization" and "depoliticisation" in architecture, as well as a green city for the futureThis dissertation emphasizes the discussion of the inside philosophy concepts in order to complete the research on the intrinsic value of architecture. It also greatly absorbs and adopts the views and thoughts from western modern philosophers and sociologists, which is considered as the basis, so that we can exceed the general professional research, which will provide perfect foundation for the future relevant researchers.
