However nowadays the conflict which usually producesto bump shot and vehemence hugely between the modern progress of the city and theprotection of the history building, we should face "THE INHERITANCE ANDDEVOLOPMENT" in the conservation and adaptation of historical achitecture.The dissertation is comprised of five chapters. The first chapter introduces themain topic, the key concept, the basic theories and the framework of thestudy. Chapter 2 is the theoretical base of the study, including the protection forhistorical achitecture, the city modernization, city designing, sociology, humanity, andpublicadministration theories. Chapter 3 analyzes the procedure and factors ofShanghai historical achitecture, and reviews the history of the protection andreconstruction of city construction heritage, explaining the actuality of architecturalheritage and the reason for protecting and rebuilding the historic buildings.Researches the social, economic, historic and cultural factors that influence heprotection and reconstruction of city construction heritage. Chapter 4 concludingthe problems which the protection and reconstruction of city construction must face toby analyzing the representative cases. Chapter 5 aiming at the problem that chapter 4analyzes and baffle. Through careful analysis from law, government administration,policy, finance, and social justice perspectives, as well as theoretical review andliterature study, I propose new fundamental strategies about how to preserve andinnovate Shanghai's historical architecture. I further propose government-initiatedstrategies, enhance the relevant laws and legislations, and seek the balance betweenpreservation and innovation of historical architecture under the current social andeconomic conditions. I recommend specific strategies about establishing themechanism of historical architecture preservation, marketing, and operation, as wellas creating principles of preservation and innovation.Carried on summary to the thesis finally, put forward concluding a theory. Alsocarried on the outlook of synopsis to the direction of further research.
