In the process of real estate devolopment in modern cities in China, residents have been increasingly valuing the construction of the outdoor spaces in residential districts. As part of urban landscape environment, residential landscaping has also become the focus of the landscape designers, the real estate developers, the administrative officials and the residents. As the result, residential outdoor space has presented an increasingly colorful and diversified vision. However, out of the booming phenomenon in residential districts, we see the shortage of human spirits. Since a lot of residents enclose themselves in personal families, they have got accustomed to the One and Only line from "Entrance of the residential district" to "Entrance of home", losing the chances of getting themselves involved into the residential landscape. In residential open spaces, residents' activity is the most impotant part and the main character of residential landscape. As a matter of fact, when people are ignorant to their neighbours, plants and animals in the neighbourhood, the residential landscape is dull, tedious and meaningless however elaborate the design may be. Without the interactive experiences of man to others creatures, it is very difficult to endue the area with the sense of belonging, thus the landscape environment should not be entitled as a Place Suitable for Living. Ironically, some roughly-and-simply designed landscape seem be much more attractive owing to human and the creature's positive activities. Based on such hypogenetic growth of landscape industry in China, the article brings about the idea as well as the solution for the construction of interactive landscape, and builds up the initial system of analysing and evaluation standards on interactive landscape in urban residential districts. The interactive landscaping in residential districts is one of the essential part of the construction of Human Inhabited Environment, which aims to advocate the friendly co-inhabitation among human being and natural creatures, and promote the human residence to move forward a better and healther "Harmonious Community". Ifthe interactive activities among residents in residential econogical community are inadequate, the landscape there is incomplete and unhealthy. Therefore, the article connects landscape construction with community activities and econogical environment, focuses on the interactive and symbiotic relationships between "People and People", "People and Plant", "People and Animal", and advocates an interactive, harmonious and communal landscape environment. The object of the research is confined to the residential districts of medium to high density, which is most popular in modern cities in China. Compared with residential districts of low density, the residential districts of medium and high density are provided with higher population density, and the living conditions there are inferior. Therefore, how to improve the interior residential environment there by means of landscape design, and how to guide the development of residential landscape towards a more healthy, practicable, and effective direction, is an imperative issue for residential construction in China. The goal of this research is to emphasize the holistic, equal and symbiotic viewpoint and to respect the relationship among all the inhabitant members in urban residential dictricts, to reconsider and re-analyze the econogical landscape environment, thus to build the landscape environment which is not only of artistic and aesthetic value, but also helpful for community association and econogical interaction. To accomplish the research work, quite a few methods have been adopted, mainly as the theories-and-cases studying, which explores the theories and methods for landscape planning and design that are suitable for the current situation in China. Secondly, with the help of existing research publications and productions at home and abroad, some instructive thoughts and ideas emerge out of the case-comparing work lengthways and breadthwise. In addition, considering that the research is involved in sociology, psychology, aesthetics, ecology, and the science of management, interdisciplinary study is also used in the course of academic research. The article is comprised of the following 7 chapters:Chapter 1, Introduction. Introduction to the background, the source of issues, the keystone of the dissertation, and the research frame, that are directly correlated tothe themes of writing, bringing forward the basic concept of "interactive" residential landscape planning and design.Chapter 2, The Kernal Part. Explication of the significance of constructing interactive residential landscape, and discussion about the basic solutions to promote interactive landscape construction, proceeding with interactions between "People and People", "People and Plant", "People and Animal".Chapter 3, The Principal Part. Combined with the viewpoint of the real estate developer, discussion about the keystone and operational methods to conduct the concept of interactive landscape in the earlier phases of residential construction.Chapter 4, The Principal Part. Cooperated with the residential activities, discussion about the significance of carrying on and perfecting interactive landscape construction and the method to organize community activity after the residents settle in.Chapter 5, The Important Part. Initial construction of the evaluation method and standards system for urban residential interactive landscape, together with the feedback and evaluation from the residents, which are vital complementarity for construction of residential interactive landscape.Chapter 6, The Important Part. Wish synthetical analysis, the basic procedure for the construction of residential interactive landscape is brought about.Chapter 7, The Conclusion and follow-up research. Emphasis on the prospect of interactive landscape planning and design, the difficulties in its practical operation, as well as the regrets on present research. In the finality, the theoretic significance and operational importance lie on its making up the blank space of research on landscape planning and design in residential districts. It indicates that the landscape planning and design for residential districts should be related to increasingly serious and updated urban issues, instead of being confined to aesthetics and styles. The research scope should be broadened to the field as landscape sociology and landscape ecology. Associated with existing situation of urban residential construction in China, the dissertation initially puts forward the evaluation method and standards system for interactive landscape of urban residential districts, as well as the basic procedure for the construction ofinteractive landscape in urban residential districts, which may enhance the maneuverability of interactive landscape construction, and guide residential landscape construction in urban districts to develop in a more active, healthy, economical , effective and sustainable way.
