Study On Interactive Development Of Urban Open Space And Social Life During Transforming Time

Since the transforming period, the diversity and characteristic of social life, as well as the understanding of users' interests and demands, have been paid less attention in the planning and design of urban open spaces under the "Catch-up" policy of urbanization. As a result, the quality of urban open spaces has been degraded, whereas their quantity and forms seemed to be emphasized while constructing. Facing to these issues, the dissertation deals with the interactive development between urban open space and social life. It is expected for the future development of urban open space to build the harmoniously interactive relationship between it and people, based on the concept of "Humanity", and understanding on the trends of social activities and the demands of citizen.The paper firstly explores the urban open space, from its beginning, following its evolution from the ancient to the lastest urban open space theories practiced today. The interactive relationship between traditional archetype of urban open spaces and social life are fully discussed, showing the important meaning for the current construction of urban open spaces. Urban open spaces should interact with social life is briefly summarized.The demands of the interaction between Chinese open green spaces development and social life during the transforming period, then, are discussed on two aspects. One is the general study on the change of social life, including consumption, inhabitation, transportation, social communication, culture etc. The other aspect is the survey and analysis on the usage of urban open spaces by questionnaire, field study and data analysis.The paper, finally, addresses the solution on how to establish a harmoniously interactive relationship between urban open spaces and social life, leading to urban open spaces fused into the citizen's daily life, thus showing fully the social value of urban open spaces.The conclusions of the study are as follows:1. The interaction between traditional urban open spaces and social life depends on three factors: first is to adjust itself in the development and change of social activities; second is strong connection to the citizen's daily activities and the third is to provide the space and opportunity for them to communicate and participate. The developing theory and practice in contemporary urban open spaces have showed the concerns for society and the interaction of social life, and will integrate them into the whole.2. Based on the survey, at present urban open spaces does not be content to citizen's demands. For urban open spaces, the correlation with the people's daily life should be enhanced.
