In this dissertation, the theory, methods and key technologies of variant design are studied systematically; the rapid variant design system is established. The main contents of dissertation are as following. The chapter one, systematically overview the concept and development of product design. Characteristics and the enterprise needs for modern design technology are discussed. Discuss the relation between mass customization and variant design based product families; the research contents, the key technique and the application of variant design are analyzed domestically and abroad. The chapter two, the modularizing variant design technology is presented. Tally up the three paths of variant design based modular matrix, which make the product variant design can be easily brought into effect. Research the general process of the modular variant design and define product model in modularizing variant design. Implement flow and strategy and the collaborative design method of the modularizing variant design are presented. The modularizing variant design architecture of multi -technology fusion, which combines modular design technology, the intelligent design technology and CAx technology, is built. The chapter three, researching technique and method of modular planning for product family, which include planning process and dividing method, module expressing and module's data model technique. At the same time, structure layout model of modularizing product, connecting model and code of module are described. The chapter four, the building technology of module's structure design unit with Agent is presented. The module-Agent is defined. The module-Agent 's framework and for module structure design model of Agent's performer are realized, which can realize dynamical and opening build module -Agent based database to increase reusing and flexible characteristics of variant design system. The chapter five, research the variant design technology based multi-module -Agent, which can quickly respond the change of market. First, bring up design pattern based multi-module-Agent and key technical problem in building variant design system. Second, build the variant design system frame of MAS-based. Research the collaborative strategy based on the blackboard in variant design process, CBR technology and interface analysis between assembled modules, expressing technology of design information with structure tree and document of modularizing a product. The chapter six, CAD system for variant product design is developed, and a application of CAD system to hydraulic cylinder variant design is presented. The final part is a summary of the research work and the resulting achievements. Suggestions for further study are put forward accordingly.
