Compared with widely used Automated Transmission (AT), Automated Mechanical Transmission (AMT) has some advantages, such as high transmission efficiency, low cost and low equipment investment because the product line for traditional manual transmission can be reused. So its future of industrialization is good and will be used widely. Theoretical and experimental researches are carried out in this dissertation by the sustentation of project from China Research and Development Funds of Ford and NSFC. Engine torque feedback control technology is used to solve the serious shock and vibration of AMT vehicle during starting and shifting. The smooth gearshift controller is designed, which is linear quadratic regulator controller (LQRC) with multi input parameters (engine speed, gear ratio, gearbox output speed and clutch target torque) and single output (estimated feedback engine torque). The LQRC optimal feedback control law is established by solving Riccati equation. In order to achieve the optimal results about shift time and shift shock, clutch slipping control model is designed and developed based on linear quadratic regulator controller. The control characteristics of AMT system by the clutch linear quadratic regulator are compared with classical closed loop control strategy at different operating conditions such as driver intension, load torque and clutch friction material. The theoretical shift model of AMT system is established. It based on modern multivariable linear quadratic optimal control theory. It consists of clutch control model, smooth gearshift control model and engine torque correction model. A new control strategy based on engine torque feedback control is proposed to improve the vehicle performance and shift quality.Engine torque correction model is developed based on Single Value Decomposition (SVD) method. The throttle opening is defined as the target parameter to control the engine torque. Numerical off-line simulation is carried out at different starting up conditions (engine engaging speed, load torque and clutch LQR control parameters). The results are investigated and analyzed. Moreover, the starting up characteristic is compared with those achievable by means of closed loop control strategy for engine engaging speed. In order to investigate and evaluate the proposed control strategy in real condition, a test rig with electronic AMT is developed. An integrated control system based on...
