With the worldwide competition and the improvement of customers' requirements, the speed of product updating becomes more and faster. To develop product in low cost, high quality and short led time is the key for enterprises. It is necessary for enterprises to reform the traditional product development process and implement Concurrent Engineering (CE) in order to realize product development concurrently.CE is a systematic approach for designing product and its process integrated and concurrently. The main aim of CE is to reduce cycle time, improve product and to lower cost, DFX is a important approach of it.Based on the summarizing of techniques of CE and main contents of DFX, the research on DFX related theory and method in CE environment is carried out. The dissertation mainly consists of five sections.1. From the point of view of improving manufacturability of machine parts, an optimization approach of process parameters for the designing is presented. A genetic algorithm has been employed to solve the model. Applications of the method in determining the optimal product process parameters of machined parts are given. The results imply that the genetic algorithm was very effective for solving the global parameter optimization problem. The approach presented can be integrated into concurrent engineering environment. 2. Design for production includes design guidelines, capacity analysis, and estimate manufacturing cycle time. It determines manufacturing a new product design affects the performance of the manufacturing system. In this paper, a general DFP approach which can reduce manufacturing cycle time during product design is presented. It performs capacity analysis and manufacturing cycle time estimate, and gives feedback which can be used to eliminate manufacturing cycle time problem.3. It is important to evaluate the manufacturability of machine parts. In this paper, the survey of define and type of feature and its recognition is provided, the manufacturability and its feature recognition of machined parts is discussed. Then thearchitecture of automatic feature recognition of manufacturability is presented.4. The reviewing of the steps and methods in DFA and the analysis of the related contents in assimilability evaluating is conducted. On the basis of these pursuits, the primary research on the system of assembility evaluating is presented. 5. The discussing of network and manufacturability related method is presented. Then the Web-based DFX framework is proposed. Based on the framework product developers can link to the DFX server and can edit and modify the content in the server, which realize the CE actually.
