In this thesis, a series of carbazole based dendritic derivatives were designed and synthesized by two ways involving bromination (iodination) and Ullmann coupling reactions, there new 3d 4f coordination polymers and 1D coordination polymer have been hydrothermally synthesized, and their optical and electronic and magnetic properties were also characterized in this thesis. The introductory Chapter 1 starts with the brief history, significance and applications of carbazole based dendritic derivatives and lanthanide transition metal complexes in nonlinear optical properties (NOL). In Chapter 2, it presents a series of novel carbazole based dendritic derivatives, and their structures were identified by FT IR,MS,1HNMR and EA.Three new 3d 4f coordination polymers, [La(C6H4NO3)(C2O4) (H2O)2]n (1),[GdCu(nic)2(ox)0.5Br(H2O)2] (2) and [ErCu(2 pzc)2 (ox)Br (H2O)4 4(H2O)] (3),[nic = nicotinate, 2 pzc = pyrazine 2 carboxylate and ox = oxalate], have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by element analysis, IR spectroscopy.Two new 1D coordination polymer,{[Mn2(4',4 hbc)4(4',4 Hhbc)2(H2O)].H2O}n and {[Co(4',4 hbc) 2 (4,4' bpy)].H2O}n also have been hydrothermally synthesized. In Chapter 3, the UV, electrochemistry, fluorescent and NOL properties of four carbazole based dendritic derivatives were characterized in this section. Their UV,fluorescent spectra and electronicchemical properties showed the similar results. The second order NOL was also enhanced significant by the nuclear of dendrimer, which demonstrate a way to enhance the NOL properties of orgnic molecules.In chapter 4, [La(C6H4NO3)(C2O4)(H2O)2]n (1),[GdCu(nic)2(ox)0.5Br(H2O)2] (2) and [ErCu(2 pzc)2(ox)Br(H2O)4 4(H2O)] (3) have been studied by thermal analysis and single crystal X ray diffraction.In complex(1), 2 oxynictinate,oxalate ligands and the coordinating water molecules form a 3D supramolecular network motif by O—H…O and N H…O hydrogen bonding. Complex 2 exhibits a 3D network that is constructed from Gd carboxylate chain, Cu(nic)2 subunits and ox ligands. Complex( 3) exhibits a 1D coordination polymer, made up of a cationic coordination polymer, free [Cu(2 pzc)2Br]-1 ions and lattice waters. [GdCu(nic)2(ox)0.5Br(H2O)2] (2) indicates a antiferromagnetic coupling between Gd(III) ions. In the high concentration, the value of 3PA cross section was at the range of 10-78 cm6 s2 photon-2. As the concentration decreasing to 0.001M, the value of 3PA cross section was at the range of 10-77 cm6 s2 photon-2. Then, when the concentration decreased to 0.0001M, the value changed into 10-76 cm6 s2 photon-2. In Chapter 5,A new 1D coordination polymer, {[Mn2(4',4 hbc)4(4',4 Hhbc)2(H2O)].H2O}n,(4',4 hbc= 4' Hydroxyl biphenyl 4 carboxylic acid) has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single crystal X ray diffraction. The luminescent property of the complex(4) was investigated 4,4' bpy and Co(II) as the building block, A novel one dimensional coordination framework ,resulted from the hydrothermal treatment of CoCl2 with 4',4 H2hbc and 4,4' bpy in alkaline aqueous solution. To the best of our knowledge, the compound represents the first example of metal based supramolecular framework constructed by the 4',4 H2hbc. {[Co(4',4 hbc) 2 (4,4' bpy)].H2O}n may be used as magnetic materials.
