Design and manufacture of machine tool is a complex process which involves in product design, machining, rapid prototype manufacturing, and so on. How to design machine tool rapidly with high quality and low lost is the goal of this paper. Collaborative design, manufacturing and management are the inevitable trend of manufacturing development of machine tool. So, collaborative design is applied in the process of machine tool's design. Collaborative design support environment for machine tool and its key technology are focused on in this paper. The main contents and contributions of the paper are summarized as follows:The framework of collaborative design support environment for machine tool is studied and set up. The process of machine tool's collaborative design is analyzed and new characteristic and requirement of machine tool's collaborative design are achieved. Layered structure of collaborative design support environment for machine tool is proposed. Support for collaborative design activity, support for organization and management of collaborative design group, and support for cooperation of collaborative design group are the three main factors of the collaborative design support environment. The framework of the support environment is set up where distributed structure is mainly used and centralize structure is secondarily used. The framework is studied from different aspects of the networked distributed structure, framework structure and technology system structure.Task scheduling and management of machine tool's collaborative design are studied and carried out. Task is decomposed by the means which combine function decomposition and structure decomposition. Design Structure Matrix(DSM) is used to describe the process of machine tool's collaborative design. Unaided manipulation and coupling manipulation are used recursively in DSM to schedule task. Influencing factor of task assignment is studied and task is assigned to appropriate group in appropriate time. The layered and recursive task decomposition model is proposed. Concrete method for carrying out task management is set up. Implement flow based on network of task scheduling module is proposed.Collaborative constraint model of machine tool is studied and set up. The distributing, dynamic and layered characteristic of constraint is studied. Collaborative constraint model of machine tool is studied from three different aspects which are constraint, constraint set, and constraint layer. Constraint is decomposed into four layers which are product layer, component layer, part layer and feature layer. Mapping relation between different layers is studied. The coherent, effective, self-contained and comprehensive characteristic of constraint network is studied. Solving method of collaborative constraint model is also studied. Constraint is classified into coupling constraint and unaided constraint. Conversion between the two kinds of constraints leads to dynamic constraint space. Both constraint spread method and region solution method are synthetically used to resolve collaborative constraint model. Constraint of collaborative design is managed and the networked framework of collaborative constraint management is proposed.Mathematic strategy of conflict resolution in collaborative design is studied and put forward. Mathematic method of conflict resolution from low layer and high layer is proposed. The lower layer method synthesizes different opinion of different experts based on qualitative analysis using optimizing arithmetic that solves multi-goal decision problem. The lower layer method is the conflict resolution arithmetic of scheme layer and its essential is to find the only optimization solution from many feasible projects that satisfies many designers. Conflict negotiation method based on game theory is studied in the high layer method. Conflict negotiation model of collaborative design is set up. Nash negotiation solution and satisfaction degree–based solution of the model are proposed. The concrete negotiation process is set up based on the above research and conflict is solved by the negotiation with the value of design attribute among different designers.Conflict resolution method based on artificial intelligence in collaborative design is studied and carried out. Integrated conflict resolution model is set up. The model manages the cause, inspection and resolution of conflict considering the lifecycle of conflict. The method of conflict detection based on constraint network spread is studied. Conflict knowledge is described using object-oriented technology and relationship between conflicts is analyzed. The conflict resolution methods based on constraint relaxation, negotiation and arbitration are studied. The conflict resolution methods of machine tool based on rule reasoning and case reasoning are proposed. The process of integrated conflict resolution and the networked framework of conflict resolution are put forward.Based on the above research, the prototype system of collaborative design support environment for machine tool is set up. The validity of the key technology proposed in the paper is validated.
