In the past decades, based on the atomic coherence, many quantum effects have been found, such as coherent population trapping (CPT), electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), lasing without inversion (LWI), which were applied in slow pulse light, storage of quantum information in a coherent media and enhancement of the refractive index etc. In addition, these effects can also be applied in the design of highly sensitive magnetometers, quantum computation, the quantum logic gate, quantum switches and quantum interferometric optical lithography and so on.In this thesis, the development and applications of related quantum effects in electromagnetically induced coherent media are reviewed systematically. And the quantum coherence effects in a degenerate two-level atomic ensemble, single-photon state generation via electromagnetically induced transparency process, the reduction of the group velocity of light pulse and the reduction of quantum noise in electromagnetically induced coherent media are investigated emphatically. The accomplished main works are as follows: 1. In order to study the related quantum effects in electromagneticallyinduced coherent media experimentally, a broad band, tunable and narrowlinewidth frequency locking laser system is needed. By using the...
