A novel gene containing an acyl carrier protein like domain encoding region was cloned from human brain cDNA with the method of adapter primer polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It is a 5' fragment of the cDNA which contains a complete reading frame. The full length of the cDNA of the gene is about 2.2 kb. The current clone we obtained composed of 1182bp in its 5' end. This novel gene encodes a protein consisting of 357 amino acid residues with the pridicted molecular weight of nearly 40 kD. Therefore, we named the protein encoded by this gene as P40.
