Human society is marching toward knowledge economy era from industrial economy era, which is agitating an IT revolution that is deeply changing human life and social appearance. Geographic Information System (GIS) is the important ingredient of global information tide, and the building and applying of it has greatly promoted the information revolution in hydrogeology field and accelerated the formation and development of digital hydrogeology. It is obvious that the groundwater resource and the correlative geology eco-environment have spatial distribution features that make it possible GIS can play an important role in the field. The development of Hydrogeologic Spatial Information System (HSIS) based on GIS can effectively manage the hydrogeologic information and support the analysis, simulation and evaluation of hydrogeologic entity, moreover, it can solve the sophistical problems such as the evaluation and management of water resource. It can modify the flaw of the analysis using single list form, datum and single model on the base of paper medium. HSIS can improve the precision and efficiency of groundwater's survey and evaluation and information's management. What's more, it offers a new technology approach for reasonable exploitation and development of water resource. This paper makes the study on HSIS as the theme based on GIS. Theoretically, the paper studies and solves the conception, general structure, data model, structure system of application models of HSIS. Technologically, studies the building of GIS-database, the realizing of the application models, the integrating of application models with GIS, the designing and realizing of user's interface. Guide by the ideal mentioned above, the paper studies the conception, structure and function of HSIS on the base of roundly generalizing the present status of GIS application in hydrogeology field. For the purpose of local hydrogeology informating and spatial analysis ,the paper studies the target of HSIS ,design principle and general structure based on GIS by structural system design method . On the premise of user needs and spatial analysis models, the paper studied the structure of hydrogeology spatial database, the dividing method of spatial data map layer and structure of map element's attribute-data on the base of profoundly studying of the control factors of the formation and storage of groundwater. From the needs of local hydrogeology, the paper builds a structure system ofhydrogeology spatial analytic models, which consists of 21 models those belong to 4 classes including spatial statistic analysis, quantity calculation and latent capacity analysis of groundwater, groundwater numerical simulation and synthesis evaluation. On the technologic platform of ARC/INFO 8.1 and the development pattern of ArcObjects+ODE+VB or ArcCatalog, ArcMap, ArcTools+VBA, the system has been developed. The models of hydrogeology spatial analysis are integrated in HSIS by the embedded form. It realized the seamless integrate between GIS and analysis models. The system is composed of spatial database management modular, models management modular, spatial analysis modular, inquiry and index modular, data conversion modular and system management modular. The system implements the storage, management, index, refresh, reappear, analysis and evaluation of groundwater resource information on the same platform.Based on groundwater survey information in Hexi Corridor, the author has built the spatial database with HSIS and implement many functions such as hydrogeology spatial information overlap analysis, precipitation series datum frequency spectra analysis, the statistical analysis among hydrogeology elements, geochemistry classification in groundwater and groundwater quality assessment, groundwater resource assessment and potential analysis, numerical simulation and geologic eco-environment assessment etc. The above functions have already satisfied the purposes. At the same time, the capability of this system and the reliability of its analysis assessment are validated.The...
